Throughout mid-1700’s the plantation was developed

Used as a refuge throughout the Revolutionary War

Guarded Francis Marion and was searched twice by the British during the war

Hampton Plantation

Managed throughout the first half of the 19th century by primarily women

Following the Civil War, plantation managed by Henry Middleton Rutledge

H.M. Rutledge bequeaths plantation to son, Archibald Rutledge.

In 1971, Rutledge gave plantation to the South Carolina State Parks Service
