NEW FURNITURE BRINGS COMFORT TO PATIENTS AND LOVED ONESBy Sharon Rutherford, RN, BSN – Patient Service Line Director

When someone is in the hospital, having loved ones near plays an important role in their healing. Thanks to our Central Auxiliary and generous donors like you, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center has purchased 71 new sleeper sofas for our larger

patient rooms. Each sofa will provide comfortable seating for three or four visitors during the day and convert to a single bed for loved ones who wish to spend the night.

Additionally, Foundation funding has enabled us to purchase 32 comfortable new glider recliners for the Childbirth Center and 345 visitor chairs for rooms throughout the hospital. The visitor chairs can be folded and hung on the wall for storage, preserving precious floor space in patient rooms.

Your generous support helps make it possible to improve the experience of our patients and their families. Thank you!

Each November a miracle of compassion called Hearts to Soles occurs in our community. With the belief that foot health is an essential part of everyday life, many generous organizations and individuals come together to provide new waterproof boots, warm socks and foot exams to men, women and children who are underserved or experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County. Hot coffee and snacks, flu shots, foot care kits and access to community resources are also provided.

We thank everyone who took part in Hearts to Soles 2018. Special shoutouts go to PeaceHealth Medical Group Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, PeaceHealth Medical Group Pediatrics, Superfeet Worldwide, Bellingham Foot and Ankle Clinic and Cornerstone Prosthetics & Orthotics. As a PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation donor, you are part of this amazing community collaboration.

Thank you for making a difference!

A gift in your will to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation is a powerful way to make a significant impact on our entire community. Call Karen Haggen at 360-788-6866 to start the conversation.

When you designate PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation in your will you can choose to support specific services throughout the medical center. We are very grateful to our legacy donors for making a meaningful gift to help patients and their loved ones in our community.

Why have a will? A will provides for the people and causes you care about, such as PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation. It’s the best way to ensure your wishes – including who cares for your children or receives a prized possession – are carried out after you’re gone.

Aren’t wills only for the wealthy?Everyone needs a will to control legal decisions and the distribution of assets after they are gone, regardless of financial worth. You may have more assets than you realize: your home, life insurance and retirement plan assets all add up.

What happens if I pass away without a will?Your assets will be distributed according to the laws in the state where you lived at the time of your passing. Each state is different and has established guidelines on how property and other assets will be distributed. In the end, people and organizations dear to you may not receive what you intended.
