The Armor of God AND War Room

By Priscilla Shirer

In the Bible Study, The Armor of God you will see that all day, eve-ry day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish ene-my seeks to wreak havoc on eve-rything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan de-pends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you.

The Enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer's in-ventory, is an action plan for put-ting it on and developing a per-sonalized strategy to secure victo-ry.

"But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will

(WOW—Continued from page 1) reward you." Matthew 6:6

War Room Bible Study is based on movie clips by the same title where Tony and Elizabeth Jordan seemingly have it all – great jobs, a beautiful daughter, their dream home. But appearances can be deceiving. In reality, their mar-riage has become a war zone and their daughter is collateral dam-age. But with the help of Miss

Clara, an older, wiser woman, Elizabeth discov-ers she can start

fighting for her family instead of against them. With her new-ly energized faith, Eliza-beth's real enemy doesn't have a prayer.

Hebrews

By Kay Arthur

Discovering the truths of this book will bring you to a deeper and deeper intimacy in the wor-ship of our God. Hebrews reveals His perfect plan laid out before your eyes in His provision for your complete forgiveness, your redemption and your sanctifica-tion – setting you apart as holy to the Lord - in and through the vol-untary sacrificial offering of the body and blood of our Lord Christ Jesus.

Eternal truths are revealed in the consecrated ceremonial sacrifices in the Old Testament pointing to the picture of your salvation as a priceless reality in the “once for all” sacrifice given for you. In our study of Hebrews, you will jour-ney through the veil of the flesh of the precious Lamb, by a new and

living way, into the Holy of Holies. You will find Him, Jesus, your High Priest who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. He welcomes you there to hold fast to Him, to worship and adore Him, and receive His all-sufficient grace for your every need.

In this inductive Bible study we will ask: What does the text of the book of He-brews say? What does the text mean? And then we will clearly see how these Truths can be applied in all of the circumstances of life that come our way….”running with endurance, the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus…”

“This is an awesome study of the book of Hebrews. The Bible has come alive to me as I have learned to study induc-tively. God has taught me so much. I can't wait to dig into God's Word each day!! It's so exciting for me!” – Rhon-da, a fellow Precept class member

The Gospel of John

A Cole Ministries Study

The Gospel of John is a beloved book. One commenta-tor remarked, “The Gospel ac-cording to John is the most amazing book that was ever written. ‘Put off

thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.’ This may well be the atti-tude of anyone who steps upon the threshold of the study of this book.”

The portrait of Jesus that emerges from the Gospel of John is the most profound of all the New Testament books and perhaps of the Bible it-self. John reveals Jesus Christ as the Eternal Word, the fully Divine, fully human Messiah, the Creator of all things, the great “I Am,” the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, and the crucified and risen Savior who offers new LIFE to all who believe! Jesus Christ was “Emmanuel, God with us” for 33 years!

John’s purpose for writing is summed up in chapter 20:30-31. “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disci-ples, which were not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”

Living Beyond Yourself: Ex-ploring the Fruit of the Spirit

By Beth Moore

Popular Bible Study teacher, Beth Moore will walk you through each and every fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithful-ness, gentleness, and self-control.

Along the way you will be encour-aged to know the freedom of a Spir-it-filled life. Through this study par-ticipants will look at the supernatu-ral aspects of the fruit and that you cannot grow, learn, or produce the fruit on your own as it is a work of the Holy Spirit alone in you. Beth challenges you to develop the fruit by maintaining an intimate rela-tionship with the Spirit of God. A Spirit-filled life truly results in liv-ing beyond yourself.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” --Galatians 5:22-23

L ast month we

started together a

short look at the basic,

most core, beliefs of

our faith and how they

affect the life of the

believer. This series of

articles in the Fami-

lyGram is in response

to Paul E. Little’s book, “Know What

You Believe” that I just recently finished

for the second time about a month ago.

August’s article centered around what

we believe about the Bible and how that

should affect how we live our Christian

life. This month we will cover the core

belief of who God is.

Little starts his chapter with a quote for

A.W. Tozer that states, “What we be-

lieve about God is the most important

thing about us.” Little goes on to say,

“Our belief or lack of it inevitably trans-

lates itself into our actions, our atti-

tudes, and our view of the world.” So

what is it we as Christians believe and

how do, or should, these be-

liefs affect how we live?

Traditionally we understand

God in terms of His attrib-

utes and these attributes

have been boiled down into

two categories over time help

us to understand God. These

two categories are the

“Natural Attributes” and the

“Morale Attributes” of God.

Let’s briefly cover these two

categories.

God’s “Natural Attributes”

are transcendence, immanence, omnip-

otence, omnipresence, omniscience,

eternality, infiniteness, and immutabil-

ity. These are all big words that if you

were to look them up in a Theological

Dictionary would take up pages of re-

From the Worship Desk

search, citations, and explanation.

These attributes are not to be taken

lightly and so it is actually difficult

for me to briefly describe them.

But what needs to be un-

derstood is that these at-

tributes are HOLY. These

attributes set God apart

from His creation. Noth-

ing and no one contains

anything close to these

attributes that characterize

God.

Transcendent: God is above all

and over all. He is greater than

all creation and He exists out-

side of creation as He created

it and is independent from the

laws of creation.

Immanent: God is near! While

God is above all and over all

He also cares deeply about His

creation. He cares so deeply

He has sought to spend time

with us and knows us intimate-

ly.

Omnipotent: God is all

powerful. Jeremiah cap-

tures it in saying, “Nothing

is too hard for you

[God]” (Jer. 32:17).

Omnipresent: God is

everywhere all at once.

God is fully present every-

where with no limitations

to His presence. Major

note, He is the only one

who is omnipresent!

Therefore, Satan is not and can

only be in one place at a time.

Omniscient: God is all knowing

and nothing surprises God.

Read Psalm 139:2!

Eternal: God never had a be-

ginning and will never have an

end. “God’s existence preced-

ed time as we know it,

and he created time.”

Infinite: God is total-

ly unlimited and inde-

pendent of finite things

such as time and space.

However, God has cho-

sen at certain times

throughout history to limit

Himself in order to bless crea-

tion and accomplish His pur-

poses.

Immutable: A better word for

this is unchangeable. God

does not vary or sway. Instead

God is steadfast and constant.

If these are God’s natural attrib-

utes what are His moral attributes?

Holy and loving!

Holiness: God’s holiness en-

compasses all of His attributes

in the sense that He is wholly

set apart from His creation.

His attributes confound us in

that He remains constant in

His stance against sin, injus-

tice, cruelty, and deceit and at

the same time stand firm in

His grace, compassion, and

mercy for the sinner, unjust,

cruel, and deceitful. But, He

will not allow the infirmity of

creation to tarnish His holiness

and so has made a way for us

to be in communion with Him

through Christ.

Love: John simply says, “God

is love” in 1 John 4:8. God cre-

ated, God gave life, God gave

choice, and God sacrificed

OneCry is a national prayer group of

Himself for us so that we could

be in relationship with Him.

“No greater love has man than

this, than to lay down his life

for his friend” and that is what

God has done in Christ.

So if these attributes give us a clear-

er picture of who God is, how

should affect how we live? If God is

all those things and yet loved us so

much that He would give Himself

up for us than how should that

change our lives? Should it?

(God—Continued from page 5) If we are honest, God’s attributes

and His love for us are not always

the first thing that cross our minds

in the morning. But God is always

present with us even when we don’t

acknowledge His presence. God

knows what is pouring through our

thoughts and hears every word.

And like a father – a good father –

He is always looking out for our

best! And guess what, He knows

what’s best. Sometimes as earthly

parents we are guessing at what is

best for our children and hoping

that we lead them well. God is not

guessing! God isn’t hoping that His

ways is the best. God knows what is

best and His direction will always

be the best for us. Does He want us

to please Him? Yes! For His glory

and honor and because He has our

very best in mind. My challenge

is…are you living to please God,

your heavenly Father? Not to earn

accolades but because you trust that

God – who is all knowing, all pow-

erful, infinite, holy, and loving –

has your best interest in mind.
