INTRODUCTION
Problem Statement: • Most school-aged children are not getting the
ACSM daily recommended amount of exercise.Our Program • Addresses this problem by implementing Walk to
School Day.

MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of this program is to increase the
opportunities for elementary-aged children to be active during the school day by involving parents and students in school organized activities.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT RESULTS
• Response Rate: n=336 (33%)• Most students get dropped off at school. • Only 18% of student walk/bike to school on a
typical day.• 78% of students who responded will participate • Safety is the primary reason for not allowing
their child(ren) to participate.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES Goal: To increase the number of elementary aged
students that walk to school.
Objectives• For 35% of elementary aged students in the
WAPS district to walk to school on May 8th.
• To get 3 volunteers for each school to walk with students on May 8th.
