From the Principal:

Important! Attached with this newsletter you will find the following:

The school’s updated Sun Safety Policy. The school board has reworked the existing policy

and re-applied to the Cancer Council’s SunSmart School program.

A letter on behalf of the school board in relation to the future of swimming lessons and

carnivals here at St Joseph’s Wandal.

Parent Computer Access – For those experiencing internet issues at home, please note that we

have laptops available for use in the library. These laptops are available for parents to use to

access school-related information only (e.g. newsletter, e-forms, parent lounge, class pages.) To

access these laptops you will need to use your child’s username and password (teachers can

provide this if you are unsure). Before using school computers for the first time, you will need to

read and sign an IT Code of Conduct. These are available from the school office. Laptops will be

available during the following Library hours:

Monday 9.00am-2.30pm

Tuesday 12.00-3.00pm

Wednesday 9.00am-3.00pm

Thursday 9.00am-3.00pm

Year 6 Camp – The Year 6 camp is less than a week away! A reminder to all Year 6 parents that all

permission and medical forms should be at the school office by now. If your account has not been

finalised, please see me at your earliest convenience to discuss this. Thank you. A reminder that

both Mr Robertson and Mrs Starr will be accompanying our campers next week and so will not be

at school.

End of Interschool sport – Our Years 4-6 students only have a few weeks of Friday afternoon sport

left for the 2015 school year. The last week of sport for us is Friday, 28th August. All uniforms etc.

will need to be returned, washed and cleaned, the following week.

Sports Shorts – Earlier in the year at a P and F Meeting, the suggestion was made to introduce

‘sports shorts’ for our students. These have been approved by our school board and the order has

been placed with Wearritto Uniforms. These shorts are a more ‘sports-friendly’ material and will

be worn by all students from Years 1-6 (boys and girls) when they wear their sports shirts. We will

let parents know when these sports shorts become available for purchase this year, however

please note they will not be a mandatory part of the school uniform until the 2016 school year.

Lost Property – Our lost property continues to grow and grow and grow….The lost property is

located in the school hall. Please check this regularly for any items your child may be missing.

Please ensure your child’s belongings are clearly labelled – this helps us to locate the rightful

owner if accidently picked up or taken home by another student.

Tournament of Minds – Our Tournament of Minds team will be competing at St Stephen’s College,

Gladstone this Saturday. Participants are required to be there by 8.30am. Best of luck to our Year

5 T.O.M. team; Ruby, Trinity, Tristan, Olivia, Tyler, Sarah and Georgie. Sincere thanks to Mrs

Lesha McLeod and Miss Shannon White for coordinating this exciting challenge for our students.

From the Principal (cont’d):

Where’s Kellie? Next week, I will be absent from school for the majority of the week. I will

be at St Therese’s Catholic Primary School in Monto (brrrr!) to form part of the External

Validation Team for their School Review and Improvement Process. Please refer any queries

or concerns to either Mr Robertson or Miss McLennan in my absence.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, and a very happy Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop Feast

Day,

Kellie

APRE News:

Prayer Corner

Feast day of Australia’s first saint!

This Thursday we will celebrate the feast day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Story from the Life of Mary MacKillop:

“Mother Mary taught by her example. I remember how once an eccentric old gentleman was to be

tended – being unable to care for himself. Mother instructed the Sisters to brush and comb his hair and

long beard. Oh, our repugnance. And seeing it, Mother herself lovingly and gently did it all and then

took him elsewhere for further attention, leaving us humbled and ashamed.” (Sr Anne Joseph Waters)

Pause for Reflection:

With whom is God inviting me to keep an open heart?

Prayer:

God of tenderness you call all to share in your Trinity of love. May we, like Mary MacKillop open our

hearts to all whom we encounter this day. St Mary of the Cross, defending human dignity, pray for us.

Action:

Be open to the stranger who comes into your life today.
