 A Poison Treeby

 William Blake

I was angry with my friend;

I told my wrath, my wrath did end.

I was angry with my foe:

I told it not, my wrath did grow.

 And I watered it in fears,

  Night & morning with my tears:

 And I sunned it with smiles,

  And with soft deceitful wiles.

 And it grew both day and night.

ill it bore an a!!le bright.

 And my foe beheld it shine,

 And he knew that it was mine.

 And into my garden stole,

 When the night had "eiled the !ole;

In the morning glad I see;

#y foe outstretched beneath the tree.

Meanin$ of the Poe#

   A 0oison ree= is a symbolic title as it e>!lains thetruth of hu#an nature. It is a meta!horic !oem as the!oet creates a !icture in our minds of how an$er hi((en

in our #in(s can $ro) to beco#e a poison tree. he!oet describes that a feeling of anger can disa!!ear ifthere is goodwill and friendshi! but if there is distrust nenmity, it grows and causes great destruction. When oneis angry with a friend, and we communicate that anger, itautomatically disa!!ears because of lo"e and friendshi!.But when one is angry with an enemy, it continues togrow because it is not e>!ressed.
