Pastor’s Note: THOUGHTS ABOUT

CONFIRMATION

With this Sunday’s celebration of the

Sacrament of Confirmation for our parish, I

have been reflecting on this Sacrament.

I was only nine years old when I was

Confirmed. In those days the bishop came to

smaller parishes like ours every three years,

and kids in grades 3, 4, and 5 were Confirmed.

I was a young fourth grader.

Although I was happy not to be called

upon to answer Bishop Rehring’s questions, I

was really prepared. As a child I always took

these things very seriously. And even at such a

young age, I was aware that somehow this

sacrament was enabling me to be a fuller

member of the church.

Confirmation is not really a ‘coming of

age’ sacrament as many believe. It is the oth-

er half of Baptism, the half that calls for a per-

sonal commitment and active leadership from

the recipients.

As Jesus breathed on his disciples after

the Resurrection and told them ‘Receive the

Holy Spirit,’ we believe that this Spirit of God is

what pulls the church together, keeps it alive,

and calls us to work to improve the world

while here on earth. The Holy Spirit awakens

within us new possibilities of how we can live

as followers of Jesus.

Most of this weekend’s recipients of the

Sacrament are 14 or 15 years old and in the

ninth grade. That is a turning point in people’s

lives between childhood and semi-adult.

Challenges that lie ahead can be very hard.

Opportunities or possibilities will also be knock-

ing at the doors of these young people. We

pray that the Spirit will guide them and help

them make courageous decisions based on

good insight.

Our entire parish prays for these mem-

bers of our parish who will receive the out-

pouring of the Holy Spirit this Sunday!

our community

WELCOME MSGR WILLIAM KUBACKI

Msgr. Bill Kubacki will be with us on Sunday afternoon to

celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with us. Msgr.

Kubacki, may a warm welcome from this parish be with

you! Thank you for coming and celebrating with us.

SACRIFICIAL COMMITMENT

Our Sacrificial Giving report from last week is $17,892.75. Thank you.

It’s hard to believe but we are already past the first quarter of our fiscal year (July through June). Thank

you for continuing to support YOUR parish.

PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES

We offer our prayers at the death of Don Prond,

the father of parishioner Mary Szych; and at the

death of Doris Parkins, the mother of Kevin Parkins.

May these loved ones come to eternal life with

the Risen Lord, and may their families be comfort-

ed in their loss.

PRIESTS RETIREMENT COLLECTION

Thank you to those who have already contribut-

ed to the “Perpetuate the Gift” collection as part

of our fundraising for the Priests Retirement Fund

of the Toledo Diocese. So far we have received

$2080 from those who used the envelopes that

have been in the church pews. (If you gave

online or sent yours to the Diocese, we do not yet

have those numbers.)

Like many other organizations, the priests

of our Diocese are aging. There is a retirement

fund that was set up some years ago. Each parish

is assessed annually to pay into this fund – consid-

er it part of the cost of having clergy in our parish.

To help offset this assessed amount, each

year we also have this campaign to allow people

to pay directly into the Retirement Fund, in the

name of their parish. Anything given to this collec-

tion is subtracted from the amount the parish is

assessed.

A gift of cash or check can be sent to Per-

petuate The Gift, PO Box 954, Toledo, OH 43697

(be sure to indicate our parish by name), or

placed in the parish collection. A gift may also be

made online at www.toledodiocese.org under

the Give tab. THANK YOU for your support!

WELCOME TO NEWLY BAPTIZED

We welcome the newest member of our parish, who

joined us through Baptism: Lydia Marie Murdock,

daughter of Michael and Andrea. May God bless her

and help her grow in God’s love and grace.

RECEIVING DONATIONS

If you look at the annual report that is being published in today’s bulletin, you will see an item listed as

‘Donations.’ This includes a number of gifts that we have received since the beginning of the COVID pan-

demic from non-parishioners who watch us online and pray with us from afar. In some cases, these are peo-

ple who live in states far from us but have found themselves so at home in our faith community, albeit remote

fellow worshipers, that they have chosen to make a contribution to our church. We want to thank them and

share with everyone present that our parish is now at a national level!
