On February 18th, the students and

staff at West Bradford will be participating in

an assembly to RE-kick-off the WB3 (We Be-

continuing to follow the Olweus Bullying Pre-

classroom meetings on a scheduled basis. We

will have monthly school-wide topics in which

students who go above and beyond to help

others will be recognized. The theme for the

month of February will be kindness. Our fo-

News from the Nurses

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The winter season encourages much more time spent indoors and in close proximity to one another. As a result,

there is an increase in colds/flu/viruses, as well as an increase in the number of school children becoming infected

with lice. First, let’s review some simple tips on keeping healthy and helping to prevent illness.

Remember the '3-C's...CLEANSE...wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds, especially after coughing/sneezing/

blowing the nose and after using the bathroom. Remember to wash hands before eating. COVER...teach your

child to use a tissue when possible to cover a sneeze or cough. If a tissue is not available, show your child how to

sneeze/cough into the crook of their elbow. CONTAIN...Steer clear of people who are obviously sick. PLEASE do

not send your child to school if he/she has a fever of 100.0 or higher, or is coughing/sneezing/vomiting or having

diarrhea. When sick children come to school, they are not only exposing others to illness, but they are at risk due

to a weakened immune system.

On the prevention of lice, the following suggestions are: 1) Long hair should be placed in a ponytail/braid or bun,

everyday. When long hair is not contained, it may easily touch the hair of a classmate who may have lice. 2) Dis-

courage the sharing of hats/headbands/combs/brushes. 3) Teach your child to keep their head away from other stu-

dents' heads (keeping a personal space.) 4) Beware of sleepovers, especially if you know of cases of lice. 5) Check

your child's head on a daily basis, especially if they are complaining of an itchy scalp, for evidence of tiny nits (eggs)

especially at the base of the neck and behind the ears. 6) If your child has lice, please notify the

school nurse so we may check other students. Your privacy will be respected. For more infor-

mation on lice, please consult with your Healthcare Provider or www.cdc.gov .

Thank you, Mrs. Baldwin & Mrs. Sculli

WB Scientists Share Their Work... West Bradford's Science Fair took place on Friday January 16th. We had some really amazing

projects presented and had judges from Downingtown East High School's AP chemistry class, our

Science curriculum leader, and a school board member who helped us to prepare for the Chester

Country Science Fair. These students really worked hard to prepare some great projects. Eight

students will be traveling to the Chester County Science Fair to represent West Bradford. They

are fifth grade students, Casey Epstein, Spencer D’Arcangelo, Maya Huberty, Lauren

Haegele, and Will Shaulis. The fourth grade students are Tyler Mordosky, Ben Shaulis,

and Luca Rodia. The first place winners in each grade level were Lauren Haegele in fifth grade

and Tyler Mordosky in fourth grade. I am sure they will represent West Bradford well at the

Chester County Science Fair in March!

READING, WEST BRADFORD! Who will be doing the FEBRUARY commercial????

Health and PE news for January...

All five grades and kindergarten will be spending most of February working on their jump rope skills. All students

will be given a worksheet of skills that they can use to pick skills that they would like to try and be assessed on.

Historically, the more they practice these skills in class and at home, the better they perform when they are as-

sessed.

Just a quick “heads up” for all students and their parents. Our yearly Jump-a-Thon to help out the American

Heart Association is approaching. The date is Friday, Feb 20. If possible, please have your children wear RED on

this day. Like always, we are always looking for parent volunteers to help us run that event. If you can help,

please contact Mr. Evans to be added to the list. Thanks!

If you would, please encourage your children to “do their homework” and practice any/all of the activities listed

above. I’ve seen some pretty astounding gains made once that extra effort has been put forth. If you have any ques-

tions, or would like to know more specifics, please contact Mr. Evans by email: [email protected] . Thanks!!!
