About the InstituteOur introductory film arts programs and initiatives aim to expose students to the art and science of making films via a comprehensive hands-on experience that guides young filmmakers through all phases of the filmmaking process.

Students are taught how to conceptualize, develop, write, film, and edit short documentary, narrative, and experimental films about themes relevant to them and their communities. Our talented teaching artists teach young people how to effectively use technology around them to tell compelling stories in an artistic and cinematic way.

Students also learn about the constantly evolving film distribution space, as we guide them through the process of developing an audience and submitting their portfolios to film festivals, film competitions, and university film programs.

‘BACK-TO-ONE’ Outreach Program DescriptionLPZ Cinetech’s “Back-To-One” outreach filmmaking program is tailored to meet the needs of students interested in learning the art and craft of producing thought provoking short narrative films, documentaries, public service announcements, experimental films, music videos, and commercials. This one of a kind film arts program assigns talented film teaching artists to specific sites and locations throughout NY State, in order to engage students in the highly collaborative and self-expressive process of communication through the moving image.

Students are exposed to industry based filmmaking skills, technologies, and language that enhance their knowledge of New Media, Digital Literacy, and Film Production. Our ultimate mission is to teach young people how to produce their own films about themes and topics that are important to them and their diverse communities. At the end of each year, students participating in our ‘Back-To-One’ Filmmaking Program are invited to showcase their work at the Annual LPZ Cinetech Student Film Showcase.

LPZ Cinetech’s ‘Back-To-One’ After-School Outreach Program provides an interactive project based curriculum that is customized to any organization and differentiated for various grade levels / student abilities. Our Filmmaking curriculum provides a rigorous, standards-based approach to the study of film & media arts. Developed through the years of collaborating with film & television professionals, film festivals, and film arts educators, our curriculum focuses on demystifying the filmmaking process for young people, no matter their abilities and / or background.

For educators, our curriculum establishes standards aligned and sequential learning opportunities, as well as provides a foundation for continuing education and for exploring careers in New York City’s thriving film and television industry.

Please email us at [email protected] for a copy of our curriculum overview, which covers a comprehensive guide to film & media arts education; aligned with Common Core Standards and the NYC DOE Moving Image Blueprint

This event, held at the beautiful HBO Theater, is a wonderful opportunity for young people to showcase their films as well as to have direct access to HBO and other industry professionals.

Additionally, our students benefit from visiting the HBO headquarters, and have the opportunity to network directly with HBO producers and executives who are interested in inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.

Schools, organizations, and students participating in our ‘Back-To-One’ Filmmaking Program will benefit from the close relationship with HBO, by way of skills building workshops for students, screening events, as well as professional development sessions for educators and program directors.
