A NEW EMISSION INVENTORY FOR CHINA BASED ON THE MARCOPOLO PROJECT

A new 0.25°x0.25° resolution emission inventory for EastChina and year 2014 has been composed, containing mostlyanthropogenic and biogenic emissions for most majorChinese cities, the Korean peninsula and parts of Mongolia.

• A higher resolution anthropogenic emission inventory, at0.01°x0.01°, for three zoom-in regions was also composedfor 2000-2010: Beijing-Tianjin | Yangtze Delta | Pearl Delta.

• The inventory contains emission estimates for nitrogenoxides (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (bothPM2.5 and PM10), ammonia (NH3), carbon monoxide (CO),non-methane volatile organic compounds (VOC) and blackcarbon (BC).

• The anthropogenic fraction provides emissions for sixsectors: industry, power, residential, transportation, shippingand agriculture. The biogenic emissions focus on isoprene.

CONCLUSIONS RATIONAL METHODS EMISSIONS EMISSIONS

A NEW EMISSION INVENTORY FOR CHINA BASED ON THE MARCOPOLO PROJECT

China’s population has grown by 40% since the 80s, toreach 1.40 bn people as of March 2017.

Tremendous GDP increase, today’s GDP is 57 times higherthan in 1980, and 9 times higher than in 2000.

By 2030 the China’s urban population will rise to > 1 bnand the number of Chinese megacities is constantlyincreasing hence air pollution issues are in the forefront ofpublic awareness.

As a result, the emissions of air pollutants estimated usingthe traditional statistical methods become quicklyoutdated and do not reflect the real air pollution status.

Combine satellite observations with state-of-art

inversion techniques to infer emissions of air

pollutants.
