A Message from the Pastor ~ Un Mensaje del Párroco During the Christmas season many of us spent time

with our family. Many of us ate as a family, laughed as a family, and maybe even argued. Nevertheless, the family was at the center of our day along with celebrating the birth of our Savior who brought us all together on Christmas. On Christmas we make many memories with our family, I can still remember when I celebrated Christmas as a child with my family, and I hold those memories close to my heart.

As we celebrate Christmas we look forward to experiencing joy; however, when we meditate on the holy fami-ly we see that maybe they experienced something a little differ-ent on the first Christmas. Mary and Joseph had no place to go to give birth to their son, luckily someone offered them their stable and it was in that lowly place that the savior was born, and placed in a manger. After his birth Joseph was warned by the angel to leave their homeland and set our for Egypt be-cause King Herod wanted to kill Jesus, because he viewed this baby as a threat to his reign. Herod killed all male children 2 years and under to ensure the protection of his kingship. Meanwhile, Mary and Joseph set off for a foreign land until the death of Herod. Mary and Joseph did everything and anything in their power to protect their son. They sacrificed their comfort and joy so that their child would be safe from all harm. They didn’t have a very joy filled Christmas, I’m sure they might have been a little stressed and worried; nevertheless, they remained faithful allowing God’s will to be “accomplished”. The holy family, by their fidelity, created hope for the world.

When Pope Francis came to the united States in 2015 to participate in the conference on the family he said that “the family is the factory of hope.” He hits the nail on the head

because the family produces life that produces hope for the world as the light of Christ shines through our children. Jesus wants to claim us as his own so that his glory can be known among the nations.

Family life is not always easy; however, its irreplacea-ble. Even if we don’t have our “biological families” with us we still have a family, our parish. Here at St. John Chrysostom we are a family reaching out to one another in Christ. We as the family of St. John’s are the factory of hope and the hope of Christ shines through each and everyone of us so long as we allow the Christ child to shine deep within us. Like the holy family, all families need to be faithful to the will and direction of God and then amazing things happen in our families and in our lives. Biological families are always to remember how their homes should be a domestic church, a place where the King of glory reigns, a place where the prince of peace calms, and a place where the glory of God is ablaze. Our parish family is no different, we should, as the body of Christ be faithful to our head, so that hope and joy don’t only become nice ideas, but a infectious reality.

Let us rededicate ourselves this Christmas season to be faithful to our family (biological and parish) so that the hope of the world, Jesus Christ, can shine brightly in all his people. God Bless you, and may God bless our family.

Durante el tiempo de Navidad muchos de nosotros pasamos tiempo con nuestra familia. Comemos junto, reímos junto, y quizás luchamos junto. Sin embargo la familia fue en el centro del día de Navidad mientras celebrar el nacimiento de Cristo. En Navidad hacemos lindos recuerdos con nuestra familia. Todavía puedo recordar cuando era joven pasando la Navidad con mi familia. No había preocupaciones, ni ansiedad, solo alegría.

Mientras celebramos el día de Navidad nos emocionamos para experimentar alegría; sin embargo cuando meditamos en la sagrada familia sabemos bien que su primera Navidad no fue así. María y José no tuvieron un lugar para dar la luz a su hijo, afortunadamente alguien los ofreció su pesebre y en ese lugar humilde nació nuestro Salvador. Des-pués del nacimiento de Cristo un ángel se aprecio a José avi-sándole mudarse y su a familia a Egipto para proteger el niño Jesús del mal del Rey Herodes. El quería matarlo porque el quería proteger su reinado entonces el dirigió su ejércitos matar a todos los niños de 2 años y bajo para proteger su reinado. Entonces María y José se mudaron a un tierra extran-jera hasta la muerte de Herodes. Ellos sacrificaron todo para proteger su hijo de todo mal. Ellos no tuvieron una Navidad lleno de alegría, estoy seguro que estuvieron estresados y preocupados; sin embargo, se permanecieron fieles permitien-do la voluntad de Dios ser cumplido. La sagrada familia, por ser fiel, crearon esperanza por el mundo entero.

Cuando el Papa Francisco vino a los Estados Unidos en 2015 para participar en la conferencia familiar el dijo que “la familia es la fabrica de la esperanza.” El es totalmente correcto, porque la familia produce la vida, que produce espe-ranza por el mundo, mientras la luz de Cristo brille a través de los niños. Pertenecemos a Jesús y el quiere que reflejemos su gloria.

La vida familiar no es fácil; sin embargo, trae mucha alegría al mundo. Algunos de nosotros no tenemos una fami-lia biológica aquí. Quizás viven lejos, o están con Dios. Nun-ca debemos olvidarnos que todos de nosotros tenemos una familia, nuestra familia parroquial. En la iglesia San Juan Cri-sóstomo somos una familia amando a nuestro prójimo en el nombre de Cristo. En ser la familia de San Juan somos la fa-brica de la esperanza y la esperanza de Cristo brilla dentro de nosotros atrayendo mucha gente a Cristo. Al igual que la sa-grada familia todas las familias tienen que ser fieles a la volun-tad de Dios. Cada familia tienen que construir una iglesia do-méstica en su casa permitiendo la gloria de Dios reinar en su casa. Nuestra familia parroquial es lo mismo como el cuerpo de Cristo tenemos que ser fiel a nuestra cabeza, Jesucristo, para que la esperanza y la alegría de Cristo brille en el mundo entero.

Déjanos a dedicarnos de nuevo en esta Navidad para ser fieles a nuestra familia (biológica y/o parroquial) para que la esperanza del mundo, Jesucristo, puede brillar en todo su pueblo.

Que Dios los bendiga, y que Dios bendiga a su familia.
