Mark 12:28-31

Temptations Pt. 1

The Temptation of Jesus (Luke 4:1-4) 1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by

the Spirit in the desert, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’”

Jesus the Great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16) 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through

the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

HAVING FUN

Sunday, September 9: Family Experience (Elementary Age Families)

We believe that what happens at home is more important than what hap-pens at Church. Our Family Experience is a place where Elementary age children and their parents/guardians come together to learn about the virtue of the month and get the tools necessary to continue faith conversations at home. The Family Experience will take place in the fellowship hall after the communion and as the children are released to Children’s Church.

For more information, please see Phil or Brandy.

Children’s Promotion Sunday is September 9

1. Can you tell of a time you have felt cheated in life? Were

there particular temptations of thought or action that

resulted from your sense of personal injustice?

2. Why didn’t Jesus turn the stone into bread? Why would

this have been a sin? How might you be tempted to sin my

thinking or doing something that on the surface doesn’t

seem sinful?

3. Why does Satan lead into the temptation with the words “If

you are the Son of God...”? (again in 4:9) How does Satan

call into question your identity as God’s beloved? (3:22) Are

there any present struggles that tempt you to question that

you are the beloved of God?
