EAST GIPPSLAND SPECIALIST SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

Dear Families, Yesterday was the International Day for People with a Disability and the East Gippsland Shire Disability Advisory Committee invited some of our students to attend an afternoon tea. Jazmine Brownlie from Room 12 read a beautiful story about a person with a disability to the group. Jazmine did a wonderful job at reading the book and the feedback from the audience was excellent. Well done Room 12 students and staff. Our senior students from Rooms 15 and 16 welcomed our volunteers to a morning tea yesterday to thank them for their contributions to our school. Representatives from the VIEW Club, the RSL, employee services, Croquet Club, Table tennis club as well as our usual volunteers Gail and Jenny all enjoyed the scrumptious food prepared by our students (and staff...thanks Maria!). Our school is fortunate to receive ongoing support from these wonderful volunteers as well as others who were not able to attend such as the Sailability volunteers. Tomorrow we are holding our annual David Hansen Memorial Award Ceremony and family BBQ. We will also be opening our newly developed Gunai/Kurnai Shield garden. We hope many families are able to attend. Times for tomorrow: 12:00-1:00 BBQ 12:30-1:10 individual student performances in the MPR (dancing, singing, drums) 1:10-1:45 Award Ceremony 1:45 Opening of the Shield Garden I received notification that the timing of the school review has been moved again, this time to term 3 2020. This will provide the new Principal time to prepare the review with input from the school staff, students, parents/carers and the wider school community. Finally, on Tuesday night next week we will celebrate the end of Secondary education for our graduating students. This will mark the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
