A Look at DCU Temperature Data
August 4, 2008

p.2
Purpose
• Matthew and I are working with Andrea Venturi and Slawek Tkaczyk to further develop tools for analyzing the DCU data– These slides show very preliminary work using
the framework developed by Andrea (only been at it a week)
– Mainly to show that some plots have been made and that the capability exists to make plots to analyze the DCU temperature data.
– So far, only looked at temperature data from July 23rd and July 29th.
p.3
Detector Control Unit (DCU)
• Detector Control unit – Used to monitor slowly varying
analog signals• Temperature• Voltage• Current• Etc.
– DCU samples from two temperature probes: Silicon and Hybrid
• Two voltages are sampled– V250 (2.5V lines)– V125 (1.25V lines)
p.4
DCU Temperatures• This is a first looked at this data:
– TEC- from 23rd,10:15 - 12:20 (last read out from this time interval)
Empty = no data read
p.5
• Plot of individual wheel (labels are temps in °C)– Last reading for this time interval (23rd, 10:15 - 12:20)
Individual Wheel, July 23rd
1c0465a9 = bs, petal5, ring5, mod2, stereo -14.62 °C ???
TEC- wheel #1 =
Expected Temperature ~ 25 ºC
glued modules
p.6
• Same wheel– Last reading for this time interval (29rd, 11:00 - 13:30)– Not happy with the colors
Individual Wheel, July 29th
1c0465a9 = bs, petal5, ring5, mod2, stereo -31.21 °C ???
TEC- wheel #1 =
p.7
• Can also look at averages (new feature added)– Average over the given time period (23rd, 10:15 - 12:20)
Average Temps, July 23rd
13.33 °C TEC- wheel #1 =
p.8
• Average over the given time period (29th, 11:00 - 13:30)
Average Temps, July 29th
-31.21 °C TEC- wheel #1 =
p.9
• By individual module:– Plot of history over all the measurements– TimeStamp = # seconds since 1970– hot and then erroneous negative values ????
• Needs more investigation
DCU Temperature July 23rd
TimeStamp
ºC 1c0465a9 = bs, petal5, ring5, mod2, stereo
p.10
• Same module (July 29th, 1100-1330)– All times give the same -31.2 ºC?
DCU Temperature July 29th
TimeStamp = # sec’s since 1970
ºC1c0465a9 = bs, petal5,
ring5, mod2, stereo
p.11
Average over Component• Can also average over a selection (Ring, Disk, a list of modules, etc.): July 29th,
1100-1330 (last time)
• Warning: the color scale has changed--now correspond to the different selections
SS1, 26.34
SS2, 25.60
25.67

p.12
Other plots available• Right now we have TEC-, TEC+ and TIB
– Temporary location: http://hepweb.ucsd.edu/~rwkelley/dcu_temps/• Organized by date, then by Sub Detector (23rd and 29th only so far)
TEC+, wheel #6TIB layer
p.13
Conclusions
• There exist software tools for monitoring the DCU temperature data
• Matt and I have learned to use Andrea’s framework to extract this data
• We have already begun to extend it (e.g. averages)• To do:
– Next, we need to take a look at voltages and currents– Interface with the WBM framework (working with Jake Ribnik).– Colors need work…
