3 more Star Wars movies coming

One of the many intriguing sub-plots in "Star Wars" lore is just how many sequels

moviemaker George Lucas originally wanted to make.

Now an entertainment force even more powerful than Lucas is finally going to turn what once

seemed like a myth into a prophecy.

The Walt Disney Co. vowed to make at least three more "Star Wars" movies with Tuesday's

announcement that it's buying Lucas film for $4.05 billion. The next installment is due out 2015,

a decade after Lucas released the sixth "Star Wars" movie, "Revenge of the Sith," and declared it

would be his last.

The possibility of there being at least nine Star Wars movies began to surface in media reports

dating back to the late 1970s, but the idea really began to gain traction in a 1983 book by Denise

Worrell called "Icons: Intimate Portraits." The book quotes Lucas saying he intended to make

three "Star Wars" trilogies: one dealing with the social and political (the set that fans believe

covers the movies released from 1999 through 2005), another would cover personal growth and

self-realization (topics covered in original trio of films) and the final stanza would delve into

moral and philosophical problems.

There are also indications that Lucas may have even flirted with making even more than nine

"Star Wars" movies. In a 1978 article, Time magazine reported that Lucas would make the

sequel that became "The Empire Strikes Back" and then possibly build upon the fable in 10 more

films. This theory gained further credence years later during a 2004 public appearance by Mark

Hamill, the actor who played the grown Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy. Hamill was

quoted as saying that Lucas told him in 1976 that his grand plan called for four "Star Wars"

trilogies. Hamill said Lucas even asked whether he wanted to be in "Star Wars IX" when it came

out 35 years later, according to reports of his comments.

Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj to perform at AMA show it’ll be a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n'

roll onstage at next month's American Music Awards.

Organizers announced Wednesday that Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Linkin Park will perform at the

40th annual ceremony on Nov. 18.

All are also up for awards.

Minaj is the night's leading nominee, along with Rihanna, with four bids each. Swift is nominated for

favorite female country artist and Linkin Park is in the running for alternative artist.

Christina Aguilera will also perform at the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, where

it will be broadcast live on ABC.

IPad Mini: Is $329 too much? Apple Inc.'s pencil-thin, smaller iPad will cost much more than

its competitors, signaling the company isn't going to get into a mini-tablet price war.

The company debuted the iPad Mini Tuesday, with a screen two-thirds smaller than the full

model, and half the weight. Customers can begin ordering the new model on Friday. In a

surprise, Apple also revamped its flagship, full-sized iPad just six months after the launch of the

latest model.

Apple's late founder Steve Jobs once ridiculed a small tablet from a competitor as a "tweener"

that was too big and too small to compete with either Smartphone’s or tablets. Now Apple's own

Mini enters a growing small-tablet market dominated by Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire.

Apple is charging $329 and up for the Mini — a price that fits into the Apple product lineup

between the latest iPod Touch ($299) and the iPad 2 ($399). Company watchers had been

expecting Apple to price the iPad Mini at $250 to $300 to compete with the Kindle Fire, which

starts at $159. Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook HD and Google Inc.'s Nexus 7 both start at $199.

Does cheerleading need rules to be safe?

Does cheerleading need rules to be safe? Cheerleading isn't just jumping and waving pompoms

— it has become as athletic and potentially as dangerous as a sport and should be designated one

to improve safety, the nation's leading group of pediatricians says.

The number of cheerleaders injured each year has climbed dramatically in the last two decades.

Common stunts that pose risks include tossing and flipping cheerleaders in the air and creating

human pyramids that reach 15 feet high or more.

In a new policy statement released online Monday in the journal Pediatrics, the American

Academy of Pediatrics says school sports associations should designate cheerleading as a sport,

and make it subject to safety rules and better supervision.

That would include on-site athletic trainers, limits on practice time and better qualified coaches,

the academy says.

Just like other athletes, cheerleaders should be required to do conditioning exercises and undergo

physical exams before joining the squad, the new policy says.

'Gangnam Style' lifeguards to get rehired- fourteen lifeguards fired last month after

appearing in uniform at the city pool in a parody of "Gangnam Style," the Korean pop

music video that has been viewed hundreds of millions of time online, are getting their jobs

back.

Page 5: A little bit of everything

pg. 5

The City Council in the Southern California town of El Monte voted to rehire them pending a

management review.

The lifeguards' parody of the video by Korean pop star PSY showed them in city-issued

swimsuits dancing underwater and on diving boards at the pool. The "Gangnam Style" video has

spawned countless such spoofs.

City officials had said the workers violated employee conduct standards and prohibitions on use

of city property. The lifeguards countered, saying they were off the clock when they made the

video.

The controversy quickly gained attention, as the lifeguards received support from many local

residents — and even from PSY.

Mayor Andre Quintero recommended they be rehired.

SHHH! Scientists invent cure for boring people For anyone who's ever been tired of listening

to someone drone on and on and on, two Japanese researchers have the answer.

The Speech Jammer, a device that disrupts a person's speech by repeating his or her own voice at

a delay of a few hundred milliseconds, was named Thursday as a 2012 winner of the Ig Nobel

prize — an award sponsored by the Annals of Improbable Research magazine for weird and

humorous scientific discoveries.

The echo effect of the device is just annoying enough to get someone to sputter and stop.

Actually, the device created by Kazutaka Kurihara and Koji Tsukada is meant to help public

speakers by alerting them if they are speaking too quickly or have taken up more than their

allotted time.

"This technology ... could also be useful to ensure speakers in a meeting take turns appropriately,

when a particular participant continues to speak, depriving others of the opportunity to make

their fair contribution," said Kurihara, of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science

and Technology in Japan.

Advice & Tips

Most every student has trouble with at least one thing in their school. Whether it’s with Studying, Staying Focused, Organizing your schedule inside or outside of school, and even fitting social life with school. It is difficult for the majority of students in just about every school environment and they just can't seem to get it all figured out. Well here are a few tips that may help you through it.

Studying:

1. Notes: Make sure to take notes that not only you can understand, but also notes that are easy for you to read and interpret.

2. Schedule: Set up times for you to study after school and during. (And don't hesitate to grab those little free times in class to study)

3. Take breaks: It is okay to take a few five minute breaks during your studying to rest or get a snack. As long as those five minute breaks don't turn into twenty or occur every few minutes or so.

4. Reward yourself: You've worked hard studying for that upcoming test/quiz now reward yourself. Go hang out with friends, Etc.

5. Practice: Studying isn't a onetime thing and takes a while to get in the hang of it. So practice, practice, practice, plus if you practice it takes a load of your brain when the test is in front of you and you’re trying to remember what the answer is.

Bonus:

1. Make study groups: most people understand something better if someone else explains it other than the teacher. So if you arrange a study group you can hang out with friends and study. And it doesn't have to be boring, turn studying into some kind of game. Make studying more appealing to you and you will learn it better.

2. Go to tutoring: Most of your teachers will offer tutoring for their students and it doesn't hurt

to go. Especially if you don't understand something well, your teacher can run it by you again and explain it to where you will understand it.

Tests, Exams, Quizzes, and Finals:

1. Study: If you don't study than the chances of you passing any test/quiz is most likely low.

Though if you do study and study well than chances are you will remember how to answer the question and you should pass. But you’re not helping yourself if you don't.

2. Don't Sweat It: It seems that many students worry once they know they have a test coming

Page 7: A little bit of everything

pg. 7

up. They don't want to take it or even go to the class that the test is in. Whether they are prepared or not whenever that test is out in front of you the heat is on. You get a little nervous and worry whether or not you'll pass or if you have enough time left, maybe even how this test will affect you grades. All I can say is It's just a test; don't treat it any different than that. Like you've never taken a test before, and if you’re so worried about not knowing the answers, etc. Then fix it! Don't let yourself get in that situation, because there are things you can do to prevent that.

3. Prepare yourself: You know those awkward moments? The test is out and everything’s silent and your stomach decides to make the loudest possible noise it can possibly make at that time! So prepare yourself Eat breakfast, get plenty of sleep, Study up, etc. You know the usual stuff people used to tell you to do on CRCT week. Remember?!

4. Take the TEST: Just take it, try your best, and get on with it.

Grades:

Keep them Checked: Go onto your schools grade checking site and check your grades regularly, so you can get a picture of how your progress is going.

Fix Em': If your grades are low bring them UP! Because it is so much easier and better bringing up your grades than repeating a whole class/grade because you didn't pass. But if your grades are good try to keep them that way it's SO much easier.

Help yourself out: Try to raise your grade in just about any possible way you can. Try studying more, going to tutoring, and gain extra credit points that you can use later.

And for anything in class you didn’t understand: Ask Questions! Don't let your pride get in the way of your education. And if you think you know the right answer for a question Say It! It doesn't hurt to attempt it.

Interview with MADDOX from

Occupation: Part time Radio Host

(These questions were answered by the real MADDOX from

Power 96.1)

K: What interested you in your occupation?

M: When I was eight years old I remember listening to the radio in Tampa and

thinking that, that is something I would want to do.

K: How long have you worked as a Radio Host?

M: Ten years. I started when I was sixteen.

K: What are the sacrifices of taking this job?

M: Sometimes you move around a lot, sometimes you make good money,

sometimes you make not so good money, and the hours are crazy. Like you

could be working for seven days of the week, I’ve been working in Atlanta

since September 29th and haven’t had a day off since so well over a month.

K: What are the advantages of having this job?

M: Um… you get to meet cool celebrities; you can make good money, get to

interact with people. I mean you get to play music and talk. You get paid for

playing music and talking how cool is that?!

K: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Page 9: A little bit of everything

pg. 9

M: Just interacting with the audience, listening to music and thinking of stuff

to say.

K: What do you dislike most about your job?

M: Nothing much it’s just tiring, mentally exhausting.

K: What is it like answering the calls of the audience/ fans?

M: It’s funny and fun and it’s just really cool to see people that excited and

dedicated.

K: What is it like interviewing celebrities?

M: It’s pretty cool depending on if the celebrity is nice or mean. I haven’t had

a bad one yet.

K: What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you on the job?

M: Um, I was once covered in chocolate syrup from head to toe.

K: What is it like having hundreds of fans surrounding the station for a

certain celebrity?

M: Terrifying, like you believe you are going to die. Though I’ve only seen it

with few celebrities.

K: Do you believe your job is fun?

M: Absolutely! It’s the funnest besides acting or singing.

K: What advice would you give to someone entering the profession?

M: Just start anywhere you can, like try to become an intern. Just any

way you can get into a station will be good. And don’t give up; someone will

hire you eventually it’s just a hard business to get into.

Horoscopes:

Aries: For the first three weeks, you’ll still feel the aftereffects of the Uranus-Pluto Square, at first mainly in your relationships, later on more around work issues. Changes seem to be due everywhere. On the whole, you tend to be impatient or a bit egocentric. Since the energy is very high now it needs to be used creatively. Experiment with new ways of relating, new forms of sexuality, and new approaches to your daily work. In the last week of November, you can reap the fruits and really get going.

Taurus: A month with high potential; invite new things into your life and extend your boundaries. To begin with, conflicts might happen. Issues of early summer are now becoming actual, requiring a deeper analysis (yet not a conclusion.) Trust that a good solution is in store for you in the long run, but don’t shun your responsibility here now. Most of all this requires that you face the issue squarely. The more you manage it, the more strength comes your way – and the more positive your relationships will become.

Gemini: Now is a time for enlarging your inner horizon and finding meaning. However, there will be some delusions and confusions. Everything concerned with love, friendship and creativity is in a flux; but even here, be on guard for possible misunderstandings. Particularly around mid-month, you may firmly believe in, represent or do something that is largely, if not utterly, off the wall. So be alert. Otherwise, you will just have to set things right by the end of November or beginning of December.

Page 11: A little bit of everything

pg. 11

Cancer: Until mid-month, your need for rest will be thwarted again and again; therefore, seek for peace within yourself instead of wanting things out there to be harmonious. Meditation, singing, prayer, dance or outdoor exercise will help you stay in balance. Yet ultimately it is about the ability to accept the sunny sides as much as the shadow sides of outer and inner life – keep looking for that which is beyond duality and change: one, eternal, boundless and free.

Leo: You are on a deep-sea voyage. That may imply different things: encountering your past, being alone, or an intense search for the truth – no matter what level. This is no time for compromise, but rather for facing uncomfortable facts and striving for creative solutions. This will turn out particularly well in the last third of November. Be flexible and don’t make impossible demands on anybody; but don’t betray your values either – and don’t lose track of your objectives.

Virgo: Gradually new possibilities open up again, your optimism is on the increase and you become aware again of the abundance of life in which you live and which is your real being. Seek the companionship of spiritual fellow travelers with whom you share the longing for true realization. Towards the end of November, you have good chances to find genuine friends. However, you need to be ready to grant others (who may not all be up to your standards) their human side. Take it easy!

Libra: The beginning of the month demands an unequivocal commitment to your own truth. Even if this doesn‘t yet find outward expression, there should be clarity about it within yourself. That being the case,

Page 12: A little bit of everything

pg. 12

nothing can disturb your flow anymore, for you are in tune with yourself and open for whatever life may bring. By the end of the month, Saturn will throw you back onto yourself and changes will take longer than you would wish for. If you uncompromisingly rely on your inner strength, a powerful dynamic will evolve that works for you.

Scorpio: Among your relationship resources are the readiness to face even painful issues, to persevere in dire straits, to accept things as they are instead of fight them, and last but not least being open to explore sexuality. In the second half of the month, watch yourself closely: are you as sure of things as you make out? Ask yourself how you would feel if people talked to you the way you talk to them – and if need be, correct your way of communication.

Capricorn: This month might become a little taxing. But remember: the more belligerent you become, the more resistance will pile up before you. Proceeding in a conciliatory, accommodating, circumspect and rather slow way, promises better results. In the second half of the month, considerable powers will be available to you, plus opportunities to relax will increase. Bring balance and restfulness into your life, consider others when making plans, and base you actions on a fair and mature attitude.

Aquarius: It’s about freedom as well as power. You are under duress because people are making demands on you that you are unwilling to fulfill. You must, however, be ready to pay the price of freedom, which at first consists in a certain loss of power. If you are able to take this into account, you will experience an enormous relief, for now you have nothing to lose: Finally, you are in a position to think, feel, and act without depending on people or circumstances. By the end of the month, new doors will open.

Page 13: A little bit of everything

pg. 13

Pisces: Take care that your agreements are clear and that you only make decisions when you have a full overview of the situation. Apart from that, this is a month with extraordinarily beautiful and supportive constellations: three planets are pampering you – Venus with love and beauty, Mars with energy and authority, and Saturn with centered clarity. Also the sun shines on you benevolently. By the end of November you should be grateful and contented enough to be able to gladly make the necessary compromises.

Musician and actor Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. From very humble beginnings, Presley grew up to become one of the biggest names in rock 'n' roll. By the mid-1950s, he appeared on the radio, television and the silver screen. On August 16, 1977, at age 42, he died of heart failure, which was related to his drug addiction. Since his death, Presley has remained one of the world's most popular music icons.

EARLY INTEREST IN MUSIC

Musician and actor Elvis Aron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. (He later changed the spelling of his middle name to the biblical form of Aaron.) Presley was supposed to be a twin, but his brother, Jesse Garon (sometimes spelled Jessie) was stillborn. From very humble beginnings, Elvis Presley grew up to become one of the biggest names in rock 'n' roll.

Raised by loving, working-class parents, Presley's family had little money, and they moved from place to place frequently. He was deeply devoted to his parents, especially his mother, Gladys, and was raised to have a strong faith in God. Presley attended the Assembly of God Church with his parents, where gospel music became an important influence for him.

First No. 1 Hit

In 1955, Presley began to develop a following with fans being drawn to his unusual musical style, provocative gyrating hips and good looks. That same year, he signed with RCA Records, a deal worked out by his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Presley was on a roll, scoring his first No. 1 single with "Heartbreak Hotel," as well as his first No. 1 album, Elvis Presley, and signing a movie contract with Paramount Pictures—all in 1956. Despite the uproar that his sexy dance moves caused, he also became a popular guest on a number of television variety shows.

By the late 1960s, however, the enigmatic performer appeared to be losing his box office appeal. Proving he was still the "King of Rock 'n' Roll," he recorded his first TV special in 1968, often referred to as the "'68 Comeback." He wowed audiences with his performance, which showcased his talents as a singer and a guitarist.

BEST KNOWN FOR

Musician and actor Elvis Presley endured rapid fame in the mid-1950s—on the radio, TV and the silver screen—and continues to be one of the biggest names in rock 'n' roll.
