Assessment options


A Level examination sessions occur

twice a year, in June and November,

with results issued in August and

January respectively. Some subjects

are only available in June or November.


A Level uses a wide range o

assessment processes and

techniques to supplement written

examinations orals, practicals,

projects and coursework are all used

in various subjects where they are thebest means o measuring attainment.

Cambridge International AS Level

means a wider range o assessment

options. Students can choose to:

Take all papers o the Cambridge

International A Level course in

the same examination session,

usually at the end o the second

year o study.

Follow a staged assessment route

by taking the Cambridge

International AS Level in one

examination session and

completing the fnal Cambridge

International A Level assessments

in a subsequent session. However,the staged assessment route is

not possible or all subjects e.g.

languages.

Take the Cambridge International

AS Level course only, either at the

end o a one-or-two year course

the AS syllabus content

represents hal o an A Levelprogramme.


AS and A Level options

Option 1

Take all papers o the Cambridge

International A Level course in the

same examination session, usually

at the end o the second year

o study.

Option 2

Take a staged assessment route

take the Cambridge International

AS Level in one examination session

and complete the fnal International

A Level at a subsequent session.

Option 3

Take the Cambridge International

AS Level only, either at the end o

a one-year or two-year course.

Reporting of

achievement

Each subject that a Cambridgestudent takes at AS and A Level

receives a separate grade and a

separate certifcate. Cambridge

International A Level is reported

on a grade scale rom A* grade,

awarded or the highest level o

achievement, to E, indicating the

minimum required perormance.There is no A* grading in the

certifcation o Cambridge

International AS Levels, which

will continue to run rom Grade A

to Grade E.

Performance feedbackCambridge International AS Level

provides valuable eedback on

perormance, identiying

strengths and weaknesses prior

to any fnal assessment. Taking

the Cambridge International

AS Level examination part-way

through the Cambridge

International A Level course

provides eedback that students

can use to set learning goals or

the second hal o the course.

It can also provide students with

the motivation and momentum

to complete their programme

o study.

Building a world-class curriculum

Cambridge International AS and A Level subjects

A wide choice o subjects is available and schools can oer almost any combination, giving students the option

to ollow a broad course o study, or specialise in a particular area.

Cambridge Mathematics


A Level Mathematics builds on

the skills acquired at IGCSE or

equivalent level. The syllabus allows

schools exibility to choose romthree dierent routes to AS Level

Mathematics: Pure Mathematics

only, or Pure Mathematics and

Mechanics, or Pure Mathematics

and Probability and Statistics.

Centres can choose rom three

dierent routes to A Level

Mathematics depending on thechoice o Mechanics, or Probability

and Statistics, or both, in the broad

area o applications.

Biology, Chemistry and Physics are

available at Cambridge International

AS and A Level. They ocus on the
