20th December

Dear Santa, My name is Irina. I’m from Russia. I live in Raduzhny. I am eleven years old . I’m in class 5. I like to read, dance and play computer games. I’ve got a mother, father and little sister Margarita. Our family is very friendly. We like to celebrate holidays. New Year is our favourite festival. We decorate our flat and Christmas tree every year. I believe in miracles and look forward to come the magic New Year’s night.

But I know that in England Christmas is the most important public holiday. It is celebrated on the 25th of December. Every year a huge Christmas tree stands in Trafalgar Square in London. In England all the family is together on Christmas Day. People have Christmas dinner. There is always a turkey and Christmas pudding on the table.

Our English teacher has told us different interesting stories about Christmas. I imagine a Christmas tree which is glittering with lights and tinsel and colourful stockings with gifts which are hanging near the fireplace. I love getting presents! I like Christmas too!

Every year at the end of December we meet Grandfather Frost and his granddaughter Snow Maiden. Russian children write letters to them, learn a lot of poems and songs about New Year by heart. I’m sure that the British like to send letters to you, Santa. I know that you haven’t got Snow Maiden but you’ve got such helpers as gnomes, elves and reindeers.

I’d like to tell you the Christmas story. Once upon a time there lived a very poor man. He had three daughters. Girls couldn’t marry because they were very poor. Once on Christmas Eve they washed their stockings and hung up in front of the fireplace. Santa Claus decided to help them and he put a piece of gold in their stockings. After that the girls became rich and they found their husbands. That’s why English children hang up stockings in front of the fireplace before Christmas night. In the morning they find presents there.

I hope that you will fly to me, dear Santa at Christmas night or New Year’s night. I have a dream about iPhone. Will you give it to me? Don’t forget about my little sister. She likes animals and pets. My sister will be happy to get a puppy. Will you give it to her? I hope you will read my letter and my dream will be carried out. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, dear Santa!Best wishes, Irina
