SAINT PATRICK PARISH, TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - AUGUST 18, 2019

After consultation with the staff and Collaborative Council, numerous conversations with Archdiocesan officials, Priest mentors, parishioners, friends, and time spent before our Lord in prayer, I would like to present to you a Mass schedule that I

believe we will need to implement in the coming months. Starting September 1, we will become a one priest Collaborative. We have discussed this possibility since Fr. Sepe and I started here in June of 2016 and three years later, the possibility is now our reality. Originally, we thought a priest from Africa might come as a Parochial Vicar but there are too many complexities and timing conflicts that prevent that option from being feasible. Therefore, we are proposing that effective October 6, 2019 the new Mass Schedule would be as follows: Saturday at Saint Patrick Sunday at Sacred Heart Sunday at Saint Patrick 4pm Vigil Mass 7:30am and 12:00pm 10:00am Though this is hard, it is necessary, for I am only one man and there simply isn’t anyone else right now who can just slip in and make it all work out exactly how we want it to. I do not come to this lightly. I know this will cause some people to feel hurt, confused, and even angry. Those are valid feelings and ones I wish I could easily wash away, but I can’t. This decision weighs heavily on my heart because I know that it will impact the Spiritual lives of many, many people. Do not think for a second that I take that for granted. But at the end of the day, though this is difficult, I believe in the long run, it will prove to be the right and necessary decision. All I can do right now is try to make the very best of what we have and make it even better. I assure all of you that everything that I do and everything I live for as a priest is in and through the name of Jesus Christ in service of His people. I love the people of Watertown and of our Collaborative and there is no place I’d rather be right now. This is where God wants me to be and we are here together and we will make this transition together. Again, I know there will be many different emotions with this decision. I hope you bring those to our Lord in prayer. Ask him for strength and courage to persevere and then join me in strengthening our community so that we can flourish in new and exciting ways. I have no doubt that the Watertown Catholic Collaborative can be stronger and better than ever if we stick together, work together, and pray together. Going forward this will always be our goal. We are not just buildings but we are one people united in the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I know that Almighty God will see us through this time of transition. The Collaborative Council and I will lead two listening sessions in the coming month to allow for people to share their feedback and concerns, and to ask any questions they may have. God is good and we trust in His mercy and his guiding love. I thank you all for your continued support and prayers. Fr. Conley

The Parmley Family at Saint Sulpice in Paris France (left) and Ave Maria in Cerva, Italy .

Dear friends in Christ, as St Maximilian Kolbe said, "A single act of love and kindness makes the soul return to life", I would like to invite you to share the love of Christ with those whom I minister to in the country of Niger. Your financial support will be used to support the SMA Community and more directly for my parishioners in the following ways-

1. Scholarships for secondary school students to attend a boarding school. The secondary school in our parish was closed due to safety concerns because of attacks, even the priests have moved away, for their safety (the priests commute to the village to minister to the Catholic population there). It will cost about $400 per student per year for tuition and boarding and we would happily send as many students as we can, as education is so very important for our young people and the future of our communities.

2. Formula for infants who have lost their mothers (often in child birth). Children are at high risk of malnutrition without formula, and formula must be imported from Europe, which is expensive. It costs about $200 to provide three months of formula. We are blessed to have local mothers care for the babies in our village.

3. Wells and Water collection projects. As you know, water is necessary for life. Unfortunately, clean, safe water is not always accessible. Communities contribute what they can, and families are charged a very small fee (less than $5 per year) to use the well. That money charged is used for well maintenance, but the construction of a new well is around $7,000, which is far more than our communities can afford on their own.

There are always additional costs, like helping families in need of food and maintaining our vehicles so that we are able to reach remote people and villages.

My mission appeals where you can contribute will be at St. Patrick on the weekend of August 24 and 25 and at Sacred Heart on Sunday September 1. I depart back home the evening of September 1.

Thanks so much in advance to all of you. My time in Watertown has been truly wonderful and I will always cherish this time in the USA.

Finally, I ask you to keep me and my parishioners in your prayers, as I will keep you in mine.
