BE THOUGHTFUL

P lan AheadEmployee celebrations shouldn’t add stress to the workplace, and potential scheduling conflicts can be avoided with good planning. If you are treating your team to lunch, make sure they know they don’t have to bring food. If you’re taking them out of the office, poll the workplace ahead of time to choose a location that works for everyone. In general, be thoughtful.

Involve EveryoneSome employees may not be as visible as others due to their job functions and/or working locations, so plan celebrations around job duties to ensure everyone gets to participate, and send multiple invites ahead of time to get everyone excited for a good time.

Senior Leader InvolvementEmployees love to see upper management connect on their level. Arranging for senior leaders to be involved in celebrations is a great way to strengthen bonds between them and the organization. When they join employees for luncheons, or other celebratory events, it’s great for morale.

Be Multicultural In parts of the Middle East

and Europe, the “thumbs up” gesture is considered an

insult. Faux pas like these can be avoided with proper planning!

Cultural FitWorkplace celebrations should align with the company culture, so take note of your workplace demographics and plan accordingly. Choose events and/or gifts that take into account today’s multigenerational workforce and your employees’ unique backgrounds. Connect events to your company’s core values where you can.

Game OnIncorporate additional fun with games and prizes. You can:

• Set up a friendly Guitar Hero or rock Band tournament

• Host a lunchtime Bingo game with multiple prizes
