Defining Self-Determination
We understand self-determination to refer to a characteristic of a person that leads them to make choices and decisions based on their own preferences and interests, to monitor and regulate their own actions, and to be goal-oriented and self-directing.

Purpose The overall goal of this project is to:
• Build the capacity of UCEDD network to scale-up self-determination;
• Establish a sustainable, evidence-based training system that promotes self-determination;
• Integrate these efforts through the DD network including individuals with disabilities, family members, professionals, and policy-makers.

Task Forces
Through an extensive literature review, the National Gateway to Self-Determination identified a number of barriers and training gaps. Based on this review, we developed five task forces, each of which are responsible for scaling-up research to practice efforts in their focus areas.
