A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE CLASSES - Cloud Object … · Starting with rudiments and weight change...

Welcome to our 18th annual Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival! These three days in 2017 stand on our proud history of commissioning new work, of producing, presenting, premiering and showcasing the world’s finest tap artists. And once again, we are providing an exciting and extensive backdrop of intense master classes to everyone who wants to practice and perfect our beloved art form. Last December, I was, admittedly, feeling somewhat complacent about this year’s programming. And as the clock ticked away the all- too-familiar ‘ping’ of incoming email caught my attention. It was a request to review the attached video. It was Caleb Teicher and Company (Byron Tittle, Brittany DeStefano, Gabriel Winns Ortiz). I was mesmerized watching “Variations,” and I knew I had the catalyst to drive our 2017 festival! Revitalized, I contacted Jason Janas regarding his one man show about his life and tap dance. He agreed to present his work reflecting his current life experiences - in “Resonance,” with Channing Cook Holmes. With these two major creative works confirmed, we topped up this festival with the likes of Dianne Walker, Terry Brock, Chloe Arnold, Joseph Wiggan, Dayna Szyndrowski and Susan Nase who will share the presentations over both nights, with Caleb Teicher and Co (Fri.) and Resonance, with Jason Janas and Channing Cook Holmes (Sat). Thanks to Caleb and Jason, for their support. And a very big shout out to Dianne Walker and Terry Brock. Their invaluable advice and friendship has been unwavering; both have paved our path with grace and generosity. To the community which keeps coming to the festival: we hope you continue to receive valued inspiration. Please know that you are so appreciated. After all, it is you who make our unique festival really happen! We look forward to celebrating Tap with you in August 2017. Sas Selfjord Producer
