PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by
what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our
whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your
mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be,
so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Dear Friends, Words cannot adequately express how grateful I am for your friendship, fellowship, encouragement and support these past ten years. These years seem to have flown by so quickly! I do hope you feel the same. I was very moved by your thoughtful recognition of this anniversary. Thank you for all of your kind words and generous gifts. I look forward to purchasing a new robe and stole with some of the monies from that gift. I am also grateful for the sanctuary flowers, for the correspondence and blessings from Malawi, and for the choir’s anthem sung in my honor last week. It has been nothing short of a privilege to serve as one of your pastors. I look forward to walking with you in faith in the future. With love and gratitude, Emily Campbell

Interested in a unique construction mission experience? Our church has had a longstanding relationship with an incredi-ble orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico called Colina de Luz. We've had two amazing youth mission trips there and our National-International Mission Committee has supported them financially for many years. Last March, a group of 13 FPCP members spent a week at Colina doing construction projects and connecting with the children and staff at Colina. I'm excited to announce that we are planning a trip again next year on March 25th - April 1st. Many members of our team from this year are returning, but we would love to include additional people that are interested in spending a week doing a major construction pro-ject on one of the buildings in the complex. If you would be interested in attending an information meeting, please contact Jim Bernard at [email protected] or 248-305-8614 by Sunday, October 2nd. Thanks!

HELP WANTED!!
Friendly folks to help out with ushering from September 2016 through May 2017. This is a fun and easy way to donate some time to FPCP. You will meet and greet members as they enter the Sanctuary or Upper Room, and pass the collection plates at the service. There are 2 ways you can help us out. 1. Commit to help one Sunday per month, on the same week and time each month (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,
or 5th Sunday of each month) 2: Sign up on a “Sub List” and you may be called when we need an usher for a certain Sunday. I will be sitting at a table in the Narthex after the service if you want to volunteer or have any ques-tions. You can e-mail me at [email protected], or call me at 734-453-1353, if you prefer.

KHOPE USA
“No maer how hard you try, you cannot make a
miracle happen for yourself. But you can put
yourself in posi)on to help a miracle happen for some-
one else.” David Staal, Show UP
Kids Hope USA is an early childhood intervenon program for at-risk children. Our church began this
program in the fall last year and 20 children in our community experienced a powerful truth in their lives.
That they ma@er. Close your eyes and imagine the power of that truth for a child whose life experiences or
circumstances have kept them from achieving academic or social success. As a mentor you have this ability
to change the life of a child through this powerful truth. Our church’s program is inving you to consider
joining KHUSA. The cost is one hour a week with one child for one academic year. One. Show one child that
they ma@er.
During the 2014 General Assembly, a decision was made regarding a policy of ‘divestment’ from companies who supported Israel. This caused considerable conflict throughout our denomination itself and there was real concern within our congregation. At the 2016 General Assembly in Portland, an attempt was made to extend this policy to divest from companies engaged in fossil fuels, however 70% of the commissioners voted for a minority report which preferred “Corporate Engagement.” For those of you who are interested in news from the denomination, please note that we subscribe to a bi-weekly magazine entitled “Presbyterian Outlook,” which is an independent publication. You can read it in our Church library or it is also available online.

FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for foster children. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for all children in foster care. This month we are thanking God for our church family that helped to donate 168 backpacks fully stuffed with school supplies for children living in foster care in Wayne County. We are asking that our congregation pray this month for the lives of these children that will be carrying these backpacks to school each day. Please pray that each child will feel the love of God and work toward the potential that He gave them. If you are interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new addition to our church office. Please welcome:
Julie Thompson
I’m sure many of your know Julie as she is a church member. She will be a welcome addition to the church office staff.
Presbyterian Women – WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! PWPD In-Gathering Requirements
As requested by Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of Detroit,
each year we are given a long list of items we need to provide for the annual PWPD In-Gathering which will take place on October 17-19, 2016.
This Sunday we will have a table in the Narthex displaying some of the items already provided.
Please stop by and take a tag from those remaining to help us achieve our goal. Items range from Bibles to blankets, from socks to school supplies!
Please return NEW item(s) to the appropriate bin in the lower level collection area. If you wish to make a financial donation please make the check payable to FPCP with Presbyterian Women
on the memo line. We will do the shopping for you! All items are due by October 9th.
