BUSINESS SNAPSHOT

Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City recently hosted a Pastoral Care Volunteer Service Awards dinner — its 21st-annual— to honor contributions of the hospital’s 26 pastoral care volunteers. The volunteers are charged with extending the presenceof spiritual care to patients. While they don’t counsel or provide clinical pastoral services, they are skilled listeners who strive tobring comfort to those in need. During the dinner, hospital leadership recognized not only the individual efforts of the volunteers, but also the partnerships between the hospital and various churches and denominations represented within the pastoral carevolunteers. This year, volunteer Ray Proseus received the David O’Hara Service Excellence award, which recognizes a volunteer’sdedication, compassion and excellence. In addition, Director of Pastoral Care Art Bakewell received a special surprise recognitionthanking him for his years of service and leadership before his retirement last month. The award is named in memory of ReverendDavid O’Hara, a member of the hospital’s initial class of volunteers. After he passed away in 2010, the award was established tohonor his legacy, recognizing others who have gone the extra mile and provide service beyond the call of duty.
