WELCOME MESSAGEMedical disorders in pregnancy is the leading cause of maternal deaths in Malaysia and in many developed countries. The management of these women can be extremely challenging and often requires a multidisciplinary sub-specialised approach. As a result, Obstetric Medicine has evolved as a subspecialty dedicated to women with medical disorders in pregnancy.

This first national scientific congress dedicated to Obstetric Medicine aims not only to create awareness about this subset of women but also aims to improve the quality of care, based on the most up-to-date evidence in management. Often, obstetricians and physicians work in parallel, but in these women, the unique physiological adaptations in pregnancy

with the added challenge of the presence of the fetus requires that we work hand in hand to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcomes.

We have worked hard to design an interactive and enriching scientific programme, striving to translate current evidence to be clinically relevant for all health professionals involved in the management of a pregnant mother.
