Glue Constitution sheets on back of George Washington Puzzle pieces and Constitution Pledge (matching letters (A, B, C, etc.). 3. Cut along dotted lines on puzzle piece. Explain that it is our duty as American members of the Church to uphold the Constitution to ensure our freedom and the freedom of the United States of America. In order to uphold the Constitution you need to read it. It is not necessary for children to understand what they are reading, but that they understand the importance of the Constitution. CONSTITUTIONOFTHEUNITEDSTATES

WethePeopleoftheUnitedStates, inOrdertoformamoreperfectUnion,establishJustice, insuredomesticTranquility,provideforthecommondefence,promotethegeneralWelfare,andsecuretheBlessingsofLibertytoourselvesandourPosterity,doordainandestablishthisConstitutionfortheUnitedStatesofAmerica.

Article. I.

LegislatureofanyState,theExecutivethereofmaymaketem-poraryAppointmentsuntilthenextMeetingoftheLegislature,whichshallthenfillsuchVacancies.]** NoPersonshallbeaSenatorwhoshallnothaveattainedtotheAgeofthirtyYears,andbeennineYearsaCitizenoftheUnitedStates,andwhoshallnot,whenelected,beanInhabitantofthatStateforwhichheshallbechosen. The Vice President of the United States shall bePresidentof theSenate,but shallhavenoVote,unless theybeequallydivided. The Senate shall have the sole Power to try allImpeachments.WhensittingforthatPurpose,theyshallbeonOathorAffirmation.WhenthePresidentoftheUnitedStatesis tried, theChief Justice shall preside: andnoPerson shall beconvictedwithouttheConcurrenceoftwothirdsoftheMemberspresent. Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extendfurtherthantoremovalfromOffice,anddisqualificationtoholdandenjoyanyOfficeofhonor,TrustorProfitundertheUnitedStates: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable andsubjecttoIndictment,Trial,JudgmentandPunishment,accord-ingtoLaw.

Section. 4. TheTimes,PlacesandMannerofholdingElectionsforSenatorsandRepresentatives,shallbeprescribedineachStateby theLegislature thereof;but theCongressmayatanytimebyLawmakeoraltersuchRegulations,exceptastothePlacesofchusingSenators. TheCongressshallassembleatleastonceineveryYear,andsuchMeetingshallbe[onthefirstMondayinDecember,]***unlesstheyshallbyLawappointadifferentDay.

Section. 5. Each House shall be the Judge of theElections,ReturnsandQualificationsofitsownMembers,andaMajorityofeachshallconstituteaQuorumtodoBusiness;butasmallNumbermayadjournfromdaytoday,andmaybeautho-rized to compel the Attendance of Absent Members, in suchManner,andundersuchPenaltiesaseachHousemayprovide. EachHousemaydeterminetheRulesofitsProceedings,punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with theConcurrenceoftwothirds,expelaMember. EachHouseshallkeepaJournalofitsProceedings,andfromtimetotimepublishthesame,exceptingsuchPartsasmayintheirJudgmentrequireSecrecy’andtheYeasandNaysoftheMembersofeitherHouseonanyquestionshallattheDesireofonefifthofthosePresent,beenteredontheJournal. Neither House, during the Session of congress, shall,without theConsentof theother, adjourn formore than threedays,nortoanyotherPlacethanthatinwhichthetwoHousesshallbesitting.

Section. 1.AlllegislativePowershereingrantedshallbevestedinaCongressoftheUnitedStates,,whichshallconsistofaSenateandHouseofRepresentatives.

Section. 2. The House of Representatives shall becomposedofMemberschoseneverysecondYearbythePeopleoftheseveralStates,andtheElectorsineachStateshallhavetheElectorsineachStateshallhavetheQualificationsrequisiteforElectorsofthemostnumerousBranchoftheStateLegislature. NoPersonshallbeaRepresentativewhoshallnothaveattainedtotheAgeoftwentyfiveyears,andbeensevenYearsaCitizenoftheUnitedStates,andwhoshallnot,whenelected,beanInhabitantofthatStateinwhichheshallbechosen. [RepresentativesanddirectTaxesshallbeapportionedamong the several States which may be included within thisUnion, according to their respective Numbers, which shall bedetermined by adding to the whole Number of Free Persons,including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, andexcludingIndiansnottaxed,threefifthsofallotherPerson.}*TheactualEnumerationshallbemadewithinthreeYearsafterthe first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, andwithineverysubsequentTermof tenYears, insuchMannerasthey shall byLawdirect.ThenumberofRepresentatives shallnotexceedone forevery thirtyThousand,buteachState shallhave at Least one Representative; and until such enumerationshallbemade,theStateofNewHampshireshallbeentitledtochusethree,Massachusettseight,Rhode-IslandandProvidencePlantations one, Connecticut five, New-York six, New Jerseyfour,Pennsylvaniaeight,Delawareone,Marylandsix,Virginiaten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgiathree. When vacancies happen in the Representation fromanyState, theExecutiveAuthority thereof shall issueWritsofElectiontofillsuchVacancies. The House of Representatives shall chuse theirSpeaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power ofImpeachment.

Section. 3. The Senate of the United States shallbe composedof twoSenators fromeachState, [chosenby theLegislaturethereof,]**forsixYears;andeachSenatorshallhaveoneVote. Immediately after they shall be assembled inConsequence of the first Election, they shall be divided asequallyasmaybeintothreeClasses.TheSeatsoftheSenatorsofthefirstClassshallbevacatedattheExpirationofthesecondYear,ofthesecondClassattheexpirationofthefourthYear,andofthethirdClassattheExpirationofthesixthYear,sothatonethirdmaybechoseneverysecondYear;[andifVacancieshappenbyResignation,orotherwise,duringtheRecessofthe*Changedbysection2oftheFourteenthAmendment.**ChangedbytheSeventeenthAmendment.***Changedbysection2oftheTwentiethAmendment.

Section. 6. The Senators and Representatives shallreceiveaCompensationfortheirServices, tobeascertainedbyLaw, and paid out of theTreasury of the United States.Theyshall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of thePeace,beprivilegedfromArrestduringtheirAttendanceattheSessionoftheirrespectiveHouses,andingoingtoandreturningfromthesame;andforanySpeechorDebateineitherHouse,theyshallnotbequestionedinanyotherPlace. NoSenatororRepresentativeshall,duringtheTimeforwhichhewaselected,beappointedtoanycivilOfficeundertheAuthorityoftheUnitedStates,whichshallhavebeencreated,ortheEmolumentswhereofshallhavebeenencreasedduringsuchtime;andnoPersonholdinganyOfficeundertheUnitedStates,shallbeaMemberofeitherHouseduringhisContinuance inOffice.

Section. 7. AllBills forraisingRevenueshallorigi-nateintheHouseofRepresentatives;buttheSenatemaypro-poseorconcurwithAmendmentsasonotherBills. Every Bill which shall have passed the House ofRepresentativesandtheSenate,shall,beforeitbecomesaLaw,bepresentedtothePresidentoftheUnitedStates;Ifheapproveheshallsignit,butifnotheshallreturnit,withhisObjectionstothatHouseinwhichitshallhaveoriginated,whoshallentertheObjectionsatlargeontheirJournal,andproceedtoreconsiderit.IfaftersuchReconsiderationtwothirdsofthatHouseshallagreetopasstheBill,itshallbesent,togetherwiththeObjections,tothe other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered,andifapprovedbytwothirdsofthatHouse, itshallbecomeaLaw. But in all such Cases theVotes of both Houses shall bedetermined by yeas and Nays, and the Names of the PersonsvotingforandagainsttheBillshallbeenteredontheJournalofeachHouserespectively.IfanyBillshallnotbereturnedbythePresidentwithintenDays(Sundaysexcepted)afteritshallhavebeenpresentedtohim,theSameshallbeaLaw,inlikeMannerasifhehadsignedit,unlesstheCongressbytheirAdjournmentpreventitsReturn,inwhichCaseitshallnotbeaLaw.Every Order, Resolution, or Vote to which the concurrenceof the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary(exceptonaquestionofAdjournment)shallbepresentedtothePresidentoftheUnitedStates;andbeforetheSameshall takeEffect,shallbeapprovedbyhim,orbeingdisapprovedbyhim,shall be repassed by two thirds of the Senate and House ofRepresentatives, according to the Rules and Limitations pre-scribedintheCaseofaBill.

Section. 9. The Migration or Importation of suchPersonsas anyof theStatesnowexisting shall thinkproper toadmit,shallnotbeprohibitedbythecongresspriortotheYearonethousandeighthundredandeight,butaTaxordutymaybeimposedonsuchImportation,notexceedingtendollarsforeachPerson. ThePrivilegeof theWritofHabeasCorpus shallnotbesuspended,unlesswheninCasesofRebellionorInvasionthepublicSafetymayrequireit. No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall bepassed. NoCapitation,orotherdirect,Taxshallbelaid,unlessin Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein beforedirectedtobetaken.* NoTaxorDutyshallbelaidonArticlesexportedfromanyState. NoPreferenceshallbegivenbyanyRegulationofcom-merceorRevenuetothePortsofoneStateoverthoseofanother:norshallVesselsboundto,orfrom,oneState,beobligedtoenter,clear,orpayDutiesinanother. No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but inConsequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regularStatementandAccountoftheReceiptsandExpendituresofallpublicMoneyshallbepublishedfromtimetotime. NotitleofNobilityshallbegrantedbytheUnitedStates:AndnoPersonholdinganyOfficeofProfitorTrustunderthem,shall,withouttheConsentoftheCongress,acceptofanypresent,Emolument,Office,orTitle,ofanykindwhat-ever,fromanyKing,Prince,orForeignState.

Section. 10. NoStateshallenterintoanyTreaty,Alliance,orConfederation;grantLettersofMarqueandReprisal;coinMoney;emitBillsofCredit;makeanyThingbutgoldandsilverCoinaTenderinPaymentofDebts;passanyBillofAttainder,expostfactoLaw,orLawimpairingtheObligationofContracts,orgrantanyTitleofNobility. NoStateshall,withouttheconsentoftheCongress,layanyImpostsorDutiesonImportsorExports,exceptwhatmaybeabsolutelynecessaryforexecutingit’sinspectionLaws:andthenetProduceofallDutiesandImposts,laidbyanyStateonImportsorExports,shallbefortheUseoftheTreasuryoftheUnitedStates;andallsuchLawsshallbesubjecttotheRevisionandControuloftheCongress. NoStateshall,withouttheconsentofCongress,layanyDutyofTonnage,keepTroops,orShipsofWarintimesofPeace,enterintoanyAgreementorCompactwithanotherState,orwithaforeignPower,orengageinWar,unlessactuallyinvaded,orinsuchimminentDangeraswillnotadmitofdelay.

Article. II.

Section. 1. The executive Power shall be vested inaPresidentof theUnitedStatesofAmerica.HeshallholdhisOfficeduringtheTermoffourYears,and,togetherwiththeVicePresident,chosenforthesameterm,beelected,asfollows Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as theLegislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal tothe whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which

State may be entitled in the congress: but no Senator orRepresentative, or Person holding an Office ofTrust or ProfitundertheUnitedStates,shallbeappointedanElector. [The Electors shall meet in their respective States,andvotebyBallot for twopersons,ofwhomoneat least shallnot be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves. Andthey shall make a List of all the Persons voted for, and of theNumberofVotesforeach;whichListtheyshallsignandcertify,andtransmitsealedtotheSeatofthegovernmentoftheUnitedStates, directed to the President of the Senate. The Presidentof the Senate shall, in the Presence of the Senate and HouseofRepresentatives,openalltheCertificates,andthevotesshallthen be counted. The Person having the greatest Number ofVotes shall be the President if such Number be a Majority ofthewholeNumberofElectorsappointed;andif therebemorethan one who have such Majority, and have an equal NumberofVotes, then the House of Representatives shall immediatelychusebyBallotoneofthemforPresident;andifnoPersonhaveaMajority,thenfromthefivehighestontheListthesaidHouseshall in like Manner chuse the President. But in chusing thePresident,theVotesshallbetakenbyStates,theRepresentationfromeachStatehavingone Vote;Aquorum for thisPurposeshall consist of aMemberorMembers from two thirdsof theStates, and a Majority of all the States shall be necessary to aChoice. In every Case, after the Choice of the President, thePersonhavingthegreatestNumberofVotesoftheElectorsshallbe theVicePresident.But if there should remain twoormorewhohaveequalVotes,theSenateshallchusefromthembyBallotthevicePresident.]**ThecongressmaydeterminetheTimeofchusingtheElectors,andtheDayonwhichtheyshallgivetheirVotes;whichDayshallbethesamethroughouttheUnitedStates. No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a citi-zen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of thisConstitution,shallbeeligibletotheOfficeofPresident;neithershall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not haveattainedtotheAgeofthirtyfiveYears,andbeenfourteenYearsaResidentwithintheUnitedStates. [InCaseoftheRemovalofthePresidentfromOffice,orofhisDeath,Resignation,orInabilitytodischargethePowersandDutiesofthesaidOffice,theSameshalldevolveontheVicePresident,andthecongressmaybyLawprovidefortheCaseofRemoval,Death,ResignationorInability,boththePresidentandVicePresident,declaringwhatOfficershallactaccordingly,untiltheDisabilityberemoved,oraPresidentshallbeelected.]*** The President shall, at stated Times, receive for hisServices, a Compensation, which shall neither be increasednordiminishedduringthePeriodfrowhichheshallhavebeenelected, and he shall not receive within that Period any otherEmolumentfromtheUnitedStates,oranyofthem.BeforeheenterontheExecutionofhisOffice,heshalltakethefollowingOathorAffirmation:–”Idosolemnlyswear(oraffirm)thatIwillfaithfullyexecutetheOfficeofPresidentoftheUnitedStates,andwill to thebestofmyAbility,preserve,protectanddefendtheConstitutionoftheUnitedStates.”

Section. 2. The President shall be Commander inChief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of theMilitiaoftheseveralStates,whencalledintotheactualServiceoftheUnitedStates;hemayrequiretheOpinion,inwriting,oftheprincipalOfficerineachoftheexecutiveDepartments,uponanySubjectrelatingtotheDutiesoftheirrespectiveOffices,andheshallhavePowertograntReprievesandPardonsforOffensesagainsttheUnitedStates,exceptinCasesofImpeachment. He shall have Power, by and with the Advice andConsent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirdsof the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and byand with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appointAmbassadors,otherpublicMinistersandconsuls,JudgesofthesupremeCourt,andallotherOfficersoftheUnitedStates,whoseAppointmentsarenothereinotherwiseprovidedfor,andwhichshallbeestablishedbyLaw:butthecongressMaybyLawvesttheAppointmentofsuchinferiorOfficers,astheythinkproper,inthePresidentalone,intheCourtsofLaw,orintheHeadsofDepartments. ThePresidentshallhavePowertofillupallVacanciesthat may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by grant-ing Commissions which shall expire at the End of their nextSession.

Section. 3. He shall from time to time give to thecongressInformationoftheStateoftheUnion,andrecommendtotheirConsiderationsuchMeasuresasheshalljudgenecessaryandexpedient;hemay,onextraordinaryOccasions,convenebothHouses,oreitherofthem,andinCaseofDisagreementbetweenthem,withRespecttotheTimeofAdjournment,hemayadjournthem to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receiveAmbassadorsandotherpublicMinisters;heshalltakeCarethatthe Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all theOfficersoftheUnitedStates.

Section. 4. ThePresident,VicePresidentandallcivilOfficersof theUnitedStates,shallberemovedfromOfficeonImpeachment for, and convictionof,Treason,Bribery,orotherhighCrimesandMisdemeanors.

Article. III.

Section. 1. ThejudicialPoweroftheUnitedStates,shallbevestedinonesupremeCourt,andinsuchinferiorCourtsasthecongressmayfromtimetotimeordainandestablish.TheJudges,bothofthesupremeandinferiorCourts,shallholdtheirOfficesduringgoodBehaviour,andshall,atstatedTimes,receivefor their Services, a Compensation, which shall not be dimin-ishedduringtheirContinuanceinOffice.

Section. 2. The judicial Power shall extend to allCases, inLawandEquity, arisingunder thisConstitution, theLawsoftheUnitedStates,andTreatiesmade,orwhichshallbemade,undertheirAuthority;–toallCasesaffectingAmbassadors,otherpublicMinistersandconsuls;–toallCasesofadmiraltyandmaritime Jurisdiction;–to Controversies to which the UnitedStatesshallbeaParty;–toControversiesbetweentwoormore

States;–[between a State and Citizens of another State;–]****between Citizens of different States,–between Citizens of thesame State claiming Lands under Grants of different States,[andbetweenaState,ortheCitizensthereof,andforeignStates,citizensorSubjects.]**** In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other publicMinistersandconsuls,andthoseinwhichaStateshallbeParty,thesupremeCourtshallhaveoriginalJurisdiction.InalltheotherCasesbeforementioned,thesupremeCourtshallhaveappellateJurisdiction,bothastoLawandFact,withsuchExceptions,andundersuchRegulationsastheCongressshallmake. TheTrialofallCrimes,exceptinCasesofImpeachment;shallbebyJury;andsuchTrialshallbeheldintheStatewherethesaidCrimesshallhavebeencommitted;butwhennotcom-mittedwithinanyState,theTrialshallbeatsuchPlaceorPlacesastheCongressmaybyLawdirected.

Section. 3. Treason against the United States, shallconsistonlyinlevyingWaragainstthem,orinadheringtotheirEnemies,givingthemAidandcomfort.NoPersonshallbecon-victedofTreasonunlessontheTestimonyof twoWitnesses tothesameovertAct,oronConfessioninopenCourt. The Congress shall have Power to declare thePunishmentofTreason,butnoAttainderofTreasonshallworkCorruptionofBlood,orForfeitureexceptduringtheLifeofthePersonattainted.

Article. V.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Housesshall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to thisConstitution,or,on theApplicationof theLegislaturesof twothirdsof theseveralStates, shallcallaConvention forpropos-ing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to allIntentsandPurposes,asPartofthisConstitution,whenratifiedby theLegislaturesof three fourthsof the severalStates,orbyConventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the otherModeofRatificationmaybeproposedbytheCongress;ProvidedthatnoAmendmentwhichmaybemadepriortotheYearOnethousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affectthe first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the firstArticle;andthatnoState,withoutitsConstitution,asundertheConfederation. ThisConstitution, and theLawsof theUnitedStateswhichshallbemadeinPursuancethereof;andallTreatiesmade,orwhichshallbemade,undertheAuthorityoftheUnitedStates,shallbethesupremeLawoftheLand;andtheJudgesineveryState shallbeboundthereby,anyThing in theConstitutionofLawsofanyStatetotheContrarynotwithstanding. TheSenatorsandRepresentativesbeforementions,andtheMembersoftheseveralStateLegislatures,andallexecutiveandjudicialOfficers,bothoftheUnitedStatesandofthesev-eralStates, shall beboundbyOathorAffirmation, to supportthisConstitution;butnoreligiousTestshalleverberequiredasaQualification toanyOfficeorpublicTrustunder theUnitedStates.
