1. Independent Reviewer for: - The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental

Therapeutics - The Journal of Diabetes and its Complications - Biochemical Pharmacology

D. Administrative Experience:

2013-2015: Executive Director, Quality Assurance Unit, Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria Universtiy.

The unit is mandated to continuously review and maintain the highest standards of academic and operational performance of the Faculty of Pharmacy and fulfill all the requirements for accreditation by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education.

2010-Present: I jointly own and co-founded ClinMedEx Inc. At ClinMedEx we specialize at offering world-class consultations and career advice to foreign-trained healthcare professionals aspiring to practice in Canada. As well, ClinMedEx is committed to the collaboration with Middle Eastern counterparts to provide knowledge and product transfer in the healthcare field. More information available at www.clinmedex.ca, www.facebook.com/groups/164575960253953/, and https://www.facebook.com/pages/ClinMedEx/182320105129103?ref=stream

2011-2013: I owned and managed the operations of the outpatient pharmacies at the Peter Lougheed Centre and the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Canada. These are the two main adult hospitals in Southern Alberta. Combined, these two pharmacies are very complex $10 M operations. I performed the following during my tenure:

- I helped transition the business from the public sector to a privately owned healthcare enterprise working closely with government-funded institutions.

- I interviewed and hired the entire team of staff composed of pharmacists and technicians. I trained them up to the standards jointly identified with Alberta Health Services in the Standard Operation Procedures identified in the next point.

- I participated in designing a number of operational, financial, and human resource procedures and policies to fit the transition of the business model and ensure efficiency and stability.

- I was in charge of the only two sites providing pharmacy services to ambulatory patients of specialty adult clinics in southern Alberta and Eastern British Columbia. These clinics include: The Home Parenteral Therapy Clinic

Page 14: A. Composition - Alexandria Universitypharmacy.alexu.edu.eg/images/pharmacology/CV_El... · 1. Omar AG, Sharabi FM, Daabees TT, El-Mallah AI, and El-Yazbi A. Comparative functional

(for antibiotics and pain management) , The Tom Baker Cancer Centre , The Hematology and Blood Cancers Clinic , Anticoagulation Management Services , Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic, and Congenital Heart Disease Clinic.

- I was in charge of the only two sites providing pharmaceutical services and dispensing of organ rejection prevention medications for all adult post-transplant patients in Southern Alberta and Eastern British Columbia.

- I was in charge of the manufacturing of sterile IV preparations including antibiotics and pain management medications for the entire population of adult ambulatory patients seen at Home Parenteral Therapy Program clinics in Southern Alberta.

- My two sites participated regularly in dispensing specialty, experimental, and restricted program medication including Special Access Program medications.

- One of my sites was in charge of maintaining therapy for two major mental health programs in Calgary: the CARNAT Centre Program aiming to rehabilitate schizophrenia patients and reintegrate them in society, and the Forensic Assessment Outpatient Service that oversees the continuity of treatment of convicted criminals who received pardons on psychiatric basis.

- I developed a close relationship with pharmaceutical companies to maintain helping patients in need for expensive medications through compassionate programs.

- All the previous functions were performed in addition to the regular pharmacy services provided to the general public and to patients discharged from these sites.

2004-2007: I managed the caveolin-1 knockout mice breeding colony at the University of Alberta: I organized and evaluated the numbers of breeding pairs, off-spring output, the number of housed animals, the number of animals produced for laboratory needs, and optimized the costs of animal breeding according to the research requirements.

2003-2004: I managed the pharmacy of El-Emary Charity Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt: I Organized the pharmacy business affairs and accounts, balanced the drugs in stock, over-looked bids for the hospital medical and pharmaceutical supplies, recruited and trained junior pharmacists, in addition to the basic pharmacy responsibilities of patient counseling, drug dispensing, and preparation compounding.

E. Advocacy and Lobbying Activities: I performed these activities by carrying out tasks through the following organizations:

2014: Represented the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University in the Pharmaceutical Education Sector Committee at the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt to promote and defend the establishment of a First Professional PharmD degree to replace the traditional Bachelor’s degree offered by the Egyptian universities. The efforts led to initial acceptance in the context of establishing a council to oversee practical training of pharmacists and construct a system for examinations for entry-level certification and re-certification.

2013: The Alberta Pharmacists Association and Shoppers Drug Mart lobbying team: As a lead participant of the activities that aimed to lobby the politicians in the province of Alberta to review recently adopted policies in generic drug pricing and the compensation model for pharmacy services. As a result of continuous engagement with politicians and political conventions, the government decided to undergo the legislated change in a much longer transition period and to freeze any further reduction in the professional fees model. Moreover, the cuts in generic drug pricing were compensated by funds that were allocated to reimburse professional services such as medication reviews, injections, and comprehensive care plans.

2012: Shoppers Drug Mart Negotiating Team with the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA): HSAA was the labor union representing the personnel working at the outpatient pharmacies that I owned. We were able to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement that secured a sustainable business environment while addressing the needs of the staff. Innovative solutions were found to circumvent any potential legal or labor relations barriers.

2006: The Egyptian Students Association in North America: As a member of the Executive Committee and the President of this association, we were tasked with negotiating an increase in the salaries allocated by the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt to Mission’s Students. Our efforts were successful in securing an increase in the salaries of these students.

2005: As a member of the executive team of the Edmonton Chapter of the Egyptian Students Association, I was able to participate in lobbying the administration of the University of Alberta to block a proposed hike in the differential tuition fees charged against international students at the University of Alberta. Following comprehensive efforts, there was no increase in the differential tuition fees.
