Preparing to Hear God’s Word

Introit Trad. USA Holy Manna

Welcome

We Worship in Song Holy, Holy, Holy! Pilgrim Hymnal 251

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;

holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty; God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee, though the eye of sinful ones thy glory may not see,

only thou art holy; there is none beside thee, perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea;

holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty; God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Glory to God in the Highest Scott Stroman

Song of Commitment From All that Dwell Below the Skies Pilgrim Hymnal 11

From all that dwell below the skies let the Creator's praise arise! Let the Redeemers' name be sung through every land, by every tongue!

Eternal are thy mercies, Lord, eternal truth attends thy word:

Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore till suns shall rise and set no more.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; praise Him above, ye heavenly host:

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen!

Leader: May the Church for which Christ died be a channel of blessing to those who are yet to receive your love and grace.

People: May God’s great and holy name forever be praised. Author Unknown, Ukraine

Prayer of Confession O Lord, the giver of all good gifts, we praise and thank you for all your blessings to us. Forgive us that so often we are more ready to turn to you in times of trouble and need rather than to thank you in the good times. No matter what happens to us, teach us to be thankful. Help us not to take for granted your gift of life itself; our health and strength; the love and support of family and friends; the beauty of your creation. Above all, thank you for your greatest gift—the way of forgiveness you have provided by sending your Son to be our Savior. You give us so much. Help us to give you something in return—the love of our hearts, a willingness to serve you and to share your love with others. Grant us day by day a true spirit of thankfulness. (Silent Prayer)

Hearing God’s Word

Scripture Reading Judith Chilcote

Luke 17:11-19 11Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
