CHRIST BY THE SEA A CATHOLIC COLLABORATIVE
ST. ANTHO NY OF PADUA ST. MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION COHASSET HULL
2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time January17, 2021 Page 2
As the parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston responded to the call to protect the public health by foregoing public gatherings this year, the events planned for Archdiocese’s observance of the Year of the Eucharist were necessarily postponed. Due to this circumstance Cardinal Seán has extended the Archdiocese’s Year of the Eu-charist to June of 2022.
Although the major Year of Eucharist ac vi es will be rescheduled for the coming year and into 2022, the Arch-diocese is already blessed with increasing embrace of Eucharis c faith. Parishes are providing more frequent access to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, including Family Adora on and mes of virtual Adora on. Teams of Eucharis c Missionaries are organizing witness talks and discussion groups. During the darkest days of the pandemic, many parishes placed the Blessed Sacrament in a window for people to come and pray in their cars or scheduled Adora on vigils outdoors. Cardinal Seán recently led several hundred people in an out-door Eucharis c Procession for a parish anniversary celebra on.
The Cardinal wants parishes to have even more opportuni es to draw people together for prayer, shared re-ec ons and witness as circumstances allow going forward. and looks forward to a major Archdiocesan gather-
ing in the spring of 2022.
In this extended Year of the Eucharist, Cardinal Seán encourages the faithful to turn their gaze toward Jesus as He is truly present in the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith, and His great gi to us, the gi of His very life. Please join us in prayer for this renewed e ort and for the ongoing success of the Year of the Eucha-rist in the Archdiocese of Boston. God bless you.

St. Sebas an Feast Day – January 20 Died c. 288
According to the many legends surrounding Se-bas an, he was born in Gaul and raised in Mi-lan. Though a Chris an, he joined the imperial army at Rome about 283. He made converts of o cials and jailers, e ected cures and urged Chris an prisoners to stay strong in their faith. He was named captain of the praetorian guards, but the emperor, upon nding out that he was a Chris an, ordered his execu on. Shot with arrows and le for dead, Sebas an survived and was nursed back to life. Later, he denounced the emperor for his cruelty to Chris ans, and the emperor had him beaten to death. A favor-ite subject of Renaissance ar sts, Sebas an is the patron saint of archers, soldiers and ath-letes.

Year Of St. Joseph
As part of our local observance of the Year of Saint Joseph, we are invi ng parishioners of all ages to consider par cipa on in the Consecra on to Saint Joseph.
Consecra on, in general, is an act by which a thing is separated from a common and profane to a sacred use, or by which a person or thing is dedicated to the service and worship of God by prayers, rites, and ceremonies. For example, we speak of the consecra on of a bishop, a xed altar, an altar stone of a church, and a chalice and paten (the cup and plate used at Mass). We also use the word consecra on to refer the act by which, dur-ing the celebra on of Holy Mass, the bread and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Christ. Conse-crated and religious life is a voca on in the Church.
How does this apply to consecra ng oneself to Saint Joseph during this Year of Saint Joseph? To consecrate oneself to Saint Joseph, means to par cipate in 33 days of prepara on (personal, communal or a hybrid), acknowledge that he is your spiritual father, you want to be like him, you entrust yourself en rely into his pa-ternal care so that he can help you acquire his virtues and become holy. Those who par cipate in this can, in turn, trust in Saint Joseph's undivided a en on, protec on, and guidance.
There will be three organized opportuni es to prepare for and consider Consecra on to Saint Joseph.
Start: February 15, March 30, OR September 30 Consecra on to Saint Joseph: March 19 (Solemnity of Saint Joseph), May 1 (Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker), or November 1 (All Saints)
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE 1. Individually/Privately
A. Read a page-a day for 33 days from the book Consecra on to Saint Joseph by Donald H. Calloway, MIC. Supplemental readings also available in the book. Books will be available for purchase. On con-secra on day, pray the Consecra on to Saint Joseph Prayer.
B. Pray a prayer to Saint Joseph each of the 33 days. For example, the Litany of Saint Joseph, Memorare to Saint Joseph, Daily Novena Prayer to Saint Joseph, Prayer before Work to Saint Joseph the Worker, A Morning O ering through Saint Joseph. Prayers provided. On consecra on day, pray the Consecra on to Saint Joseph Prayer.
2. Communally/Publicly
A. Do one of the op ons under Individually/Privately and gather weekly (in person or online, to be de-termined) for discussion and sharing of insights from the week's readings/prayers. On consecra on day, gather (in person or online, to be determined) for the Consecra on to Saint Joseph Prayer.
Those who choose the individual/private op on, may also par cipate in the in person or online Consecra on Day gathering.

Let us take the time to kneel before Jesus present in the Eucharist, in order to make reparation by
our faith and love for the acts of carelessness and neglect, and even the insults which our Savior
must endure in many parts of the world. St. Pope John Paul II
“In human life, Joseph was Jesus’ teacher in their daily contact, full of re ned a ec on, glad to deny himself to take be er care of Jesus. Isn’t that reason enough for us to consider this just man, this holy patriarch, in whom the faith of the Old Covenant comes to full frui on, as a master of interior life? Interior life is nothing but con nual and direct conversa on with Christ, so as to become one with him. And Joseph can tell us many things about Jesus. Therefore, never neglect devo on to him—Ite ad Ioseph: “Go to Jo-seph”—as Chris an tradi on puts it in the words of the Old Testament (Gen 41:55)” St. Josemaría Escriva
