INTRODUCTION TO PYTHIA
• Pythia program - a standard tool for generation of high-energy collisions.
• Includes hard processes , models for intial- and final-state parton showers, multiple parton interactions, beam remnants, string fragmentation and particle decays.
• PYTHIA8 a complete rewrite in C++
• Started learning event generation with PYTHIA6 and then with PYTHIA8
• Also learning how to generate different processes (hard process , ISR etc...) for particle production

Different processes in pythia8
8/6/2011 5
• Study out p-p interaction at the generation level as in actual CMS experiment, Using Pythia8GeneratorFilter
• Weak Single Boson production
• Allow Z boson to decay only through channels :
Z +
Z e+e

Invariant Mass Distribution
• sing CMSSW_4_1_5, writing analyzer to calculate invariant mass of Z boson from the produced –
• with Electron -positron pair and
• ISR &FSR On and Off
• with + pair and
• ISR & FSR On and Off

Test beam data analysis
Analyze the Test Beam Data for muon in HO (outerpart of hadron calorimeter)Towers for different values of eta and phi
The code which I use to anayze the test beam data for muon
Eta allowed value : 0.348 -0.870
i.e (tower index 5 -11 ring1 for HO)
Phi for one complete slice i.e 20 degree
With granuality 0.087*0.087 in eta-phi

• Shall continue to work with CMSSW and TB2009 data (Pythia and Hit Level simulation completed)
• Participate in the service work /shifts
• Participate in CMS-Calorimeter Test Beams. Analysis of TB data will be part of my Ph.D. Thesis.

Work to be done during July-December, 2011
• To participate in the Test Beam runs for HO (Si-PMs)during 15-30 July and October, 2011 along-with the team from FermiLab.Permission granted by Jim Freeman & Chris Tully (Coordinators)The work will be done under the supervision of Prof S.Dugadwho will be at CERN during July & August & Prof. Manjit Kaur
• Analyze the Test Beam 2011 and prepare results by December 2011.
• Shall learn to work with the required Software including GEANT4
• Since no other Test Beam runs are anticipated innear future, the CERN visit is requested to be approved.
