Page 9 A Busy Weekend for the Mayor of Airdrie By the time Mayor Linda Bruce was finished being roasted by a panel of friends and colleagues, you could say that she was well done. The evening started off with a fabulous meal and was followed by over two straight hours of jokes, gags and quips that kept the audience in stitches. Mayor Bruce willingly allowed herself to be the brunt of many jokes, all for a good cause. The evening raised over $11,000 for the Airdrie & District Community Foundation. Families came out and joined Mayor Bruce on either a 5 km or 10 km run, raising approximately $4,000 in support of ARRES. A great time was had by all, and it helped cap off a fun weekend that showcased the wonderful g i v i n g and caring community that Airdrie truly is. CARL RUSSELL AIRDRIE, AB

Hey ! September 21st was my final race of the 2008 season. I am sad that there is no more racing, but I am also glad for the break. This year has been quite the rollercoaster! It was quite chilly on Sunday, but the kart was running great. I managed to qualify a solid 3rd, which put me in a great position for the start of the pre-final. As the green flag flew, I pushed the pole sitter and we cleared everyone going into the first corner. For the entire race I was right on her, but I just didn't have enough to get around her. Sadly, I was on the outside for the final but I was hoping for a decent start. I definitely did not get it. In the first corner, I was basically in the grass and ended up getting into an accident with a few other karts. I couldn't believe this happened. But, I kept fighting and finished 5th. I was so far back after the first corner that I just didn't have the time to catch up. Next year I will be a senior! Can't wait for the 2009 season. Thanks for everything! - Chelsey Wilson #13 Team Alpha

Telling Stories Delivering a speech at a banquet on the night of his arrival in a large city, a visiting minister told several anecdotes he expected to repeat at meetings the next day. Because he wanted to use the jokes again, he requested the reporters to omit them from any accounts they might turn in to their newspapers. A cub reporter, in commenting on the speech, ended his piece with the following: "The minister told a number of stories that cannot be published."

Penny’s Tip of the Week

Should I work out if I’m sick? Submitted by: Jim

I think I get asked that question every fall when the kids go back to school. It really depends how sick you are. If you have the flu, NO!!!! You will be weak and we don't want your germs in the gym, so stay home and rest—that's what your body needs. If you have a head cold, you can work out no problem. Please use the hand sanitizer, wash your hands a lot, and use the disinfectant spray on all the equipment you touch or sweat on to avoid passing your cold on to everyone. Basically listen to your body. If you do decide to try a workout, keep listening and if you feel faint at any time, stop and call it a day.

Comfortable

Two sisters, one blonde and one brunette, inherit the family ranch. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble. In order to keep the bank from repossessing the ranch, they need to purchase a bull so that they can breed their own stock. The brunette balances their checkbook, then takes their last $600 dollars out west to another ranch where a man has a prize bull for sale. Upon leaving, she tells her sister, "When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I'll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home." The brunette arrives at the man's ranch, inspects the bull, and decides she does want to buy it. The man tells her that he can sell it for $599, no less. After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram to tell her the news. She walks into the telegraph office, and says, "I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her that I've bought a bull for our ranch. I need her to hitch the trailer to our pick-up truck and drive out here so we can haul it home." The telegraph operator explains that he'll be glad to help her, then adds, "It's just 99 cents a word." Well, with only $1 left after paying for the bull, the brunette realizes that she'll only be able to send her sister one word. After thinking for a few minutes, she nods, and says, "I want you to send her the word, 'comfortable.'" The telegraph operator shakes his head. "How is she ever going to know

that you want her to hitch the trailer to your pick-up truck and drive out here to haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her the word, 'comfortable?'" The brunette explains, "My sister's blonde. She'll read it slow."

Contact Lens The teenager lost a contact lens while playing basketball in his driveway. After a fruitless search, he told his mother the lens was nowhere to be found. Undaunted, she went outside and in a few minutes, returned with the lens in her hand. "How did you manage to find it, Mom?" the teenager asked. "We weren't looking for the same thing," she replied. "You were looking for a small piece of plastic. I was looking for $150."
