A Blended Approach to Handwriting Without Tears® Style ...

As part of our letter books, we have included handwriting practice within the books to make it easier for you to teach handwriting at the same time as introducing letters and phonics.

If you use Handwriting Without Tears® program, you will already be familiar with the use of lines and curves for making letters. Building letters is included on the capital letter pages.

If you don’t use the program, I suggest checking out their website to find out a bit more. They have videos for teachers/parents to help you teach your children. It has made a huge difference in our classroom with even the most reluctant learners. It incorporates so many developmentally appropriate hands-on activities along with writing practice.

On the blank last page in each book, we often cut out the shapes (included with the letter books) and glue them on to make the letters.

Note: HWT program does not teach lower case letters until all upper case letters have been taught. I have included both upper and lower case letters within each book to meet the needs of traditional manuscript classrooms and those with older students. You can choose whether or not you wish to include this page in your children’s books.

To print st udent books:Choose select ion of pages you want to print in your printer sett ings. (Such as letter Aa black line version.Choose double sided to save paper, if preferred.

Choose correct number of copies – remember each copy makes two books!

Staple where indicated. then cut across the middle with paper cutter or scissors.

Classroom books: Print selected colored pagesand you are ready to use for classroom.
