Elvis Aaron Presley was born in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935. He grew up as an only child after his twin brother was stillborn. He and his parents, Vernon Elvis and Gladys Presley, moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948. There, Elvis began his iconic music career, which included 14 Grammy nominations, 3 wins, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, received at the age of 36, 18 no.1 singles, countless gold and platinum albums and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame plus the Country Music and the Gospel Music Halls of Fame. In 1957, at the age of 22, he bought the famous Graceland mansion in Memphis and called that his home for the rest of his life. Despite his humble beginnings and his short life of only 42 years, he became known world wide with hits such as Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Love Me Tender and many, many, many more. He is still today immediately recognized as an original super star at the mention of his name, Elvis - the King of Rock & Roll. Known for his immense fame and universally appreciated good looks and talent, he was also well known for his humility, sense of humor, kindness, strong faith and his love for his mother, who was a descendant of the Cherokee Nation. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1960. On August 16, 1977, he died at Graceland and is buried there. Graceland is now a museum that is open to the public. ELVIS !
