William Rogers Chapman (1855-1935) summer home in Mayville: Prof. Chapman stabled his Bethel racing trotting horses here and in 1910 invited his Maine Music Fes-tival picnic guests to gather for a group photo. The photo of his sheep herd was taken in the field directly across the road from his house.

The Chapmans stayed in a special suite at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City during the winter. The hotel was the headquarters for the Rubenstein Chorus which he directed.

ELWYN N. DICKEY, Town Manager January 30, 1967 to September 25, 1975.

Mr. Dickey died very unexpectedly on September 25 and the Town Report for 1975

was dedicated to him.

1904—The home of Will O. Straw as pictured in a special Illustrated Edi-

tion of the Bethel News. Acquired by the Bethel Inn in 1923, was called

first, The Straw House , and then The Elms. In 1999 acquired by the Be-
