Armstrong Woods: The serene, majestic beauty of this Grove is a living reminder of the magnificent primeval redwood forest that covered much of this area before logging operations began during the 19th century. Armstrong Redwoods preserves stately and magnificent Sequoia sempervirens, commonly known as the coast redwood. These trees stand together as a testament to the wonders of the natural world. The grove offers solace from the hustle and bustle of daily life, offering the onlooker great inspiration and a place for quiet reflection. The reserve includes a visitor center, large outdoor amphitheater, self-guided nature trails, and a variety of picnic facilities. While you can drive into the park, the best way to experience the dramatic effect of the towering redwoods, is to park in the lot at the park entrance and walk in for free.  Donations are accepted at the Visitor Center and at the kiosk entrance.   All of the main park features can be found along the Pioneer Nature Trail. This trail is a mile and a half long round trip, is ADA accessible and is mostly flat and level.

FEATURED SPEAKERSDr. Karl Ulrich VolzFounder President of the ISMI — International Society of Metal-Free Implantology, and founder of the dental clinics Bodensee Zahnklinik and Tagesklinik Konstanz. In 2001, he developed the first market-ready ceramic implant and was also the one who developed all of SDS Swiss Dental Solutions’ implant designs for a wide range of indications. He went on to become the dentist to install the most ceramic implants in the world. Thanks to this pioneering achievement, he is arguably the most experienced and well-known biological dentist in Europe, and has developed unique treatment methods and surgery concepts which only became possible through the concurrent use of biological and immunological enhancement and accompaniment protocols. His treatment successes, publications, and international talks have sparked a new trend in dentistry and led to the fact that a large percentage of his patients are themselves dentists, doctors, and non-medical practitioners. He currently leads the biological dentistry department in the SWISS BIOHEALTH CLINIC in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland.

Dr. Horrocks received a Masters of Science degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Colorado and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has spoken nationally and internationally on Advanced Piezosurgery and Controlled Assisted Ridge Expansion (CARE). He has written a chapter on “Piezo-Assisted Ridge Expansion“ in a textbook on advanced piezosurgery and has a recent publication in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry on the CARE approach to Ridge Expansion. He has just recently published a chapter on periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue surgery in the Wiley textbook Minimally Invasive Surgery for Dental Implants. He limits his practice to Periodontics with a focus on dental implant related surgery.

Jodi Deming, RDH Jodi started practice as a dental hygienist in 1988. In the early 1990’s frustrated with the understanding of the etiology of periodontal disease became involved with biofilm research. At that time the term was rarely used in dentistry except in the context of dental unit waterlines. As a clinical research associate Jodi was involved with biofilm growth and therapeutic product development evaluating the effect on dental biofilms. Understanding biofilms, she developed a passion about non-surgical therapy, root morphology, and the results of thorough periodontal debridement. Jodi has worked 28 years mastering non-surgical periodontal therapy techniques and procedures. She currently works in both periodontic and prosthodontic practices. Jodi is a national and international educator, clinician, and lecturer. She has pre-sented over a 150 lectures and workshops on advanced integration of ultrasonic and hand instrumentation Jodi has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry, Department of Dental Hygiene and at Spear Education. She is a Friends of Hu-Friedy Thought Leader valued for her involvement with biofilm research, instrument development and training. She is nationally recognized as an expert in endoscope and ultrasonic instrumentation.

Dean Ahmad, DDSDr. Dean N. Ahmad was born in Birmingham, England (UK) and was raised in Miami, Florida. He currently maintains a private practice specializing in the treatment of Periodontal Diseases, Periodontal Plastic Surgical Therapies, and Implant Dentistry in Northern California. Dr. Ahmad received both his graduate certificate in Periodontics and his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan. He is a Board Certified, Diplomate, Periodontist from the American Board of Periodontology. He has also obtained Fellowship from both the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and from the Pierre Fauchard Honorary Academy. Throughout his training, he has completed internships in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from both Northwestern University and the University of Miami. He has also lectured both domestically (CDA Scientific Sessions/SDDS…) and internationally. Dr. Ahmad has participated in multiple research projects and published numerous scientific articles. Dr. Ahmad has also attained Clinical Assistant Professorship in Periodontology and Orofacial Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Ahmad is the current president of the Western Society of Periodontology. He is also the past-president of Dental APPNA. Dr. Ahmad is considered an “Expert in the Field in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry” for the Dental Board of California. He is an Examiner in Intravenous Conscious Sedation for the Dental Board of California and is also on the Executive Advisory Board for Carrington College, School of Dental Hygiene. Dr. Ahmad and his team have played a major role in applying innovative medical and technological advances to current Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.
