NOTES &c FROM NJPC 03 0 2 NEW mMm BOOKLETS ! ! NOTES &c FROM NJPC

AS of about June 15, our supply of New Member Booklets was exhausted. I n an t i c ipa t ion of t h i s , we had revised the booklet and enlarged i t , however all of the necessary retyping work which had been farmed out t o volunteer members has not yet been received here a t HQ. We ant ic ipate i t shor t ly , and w i l l get the Booklet t o the p r in t e r post haste. I n the meantime, a l l members who have joined since tha t time, please be pat ient - we w i l l ge t your New Member Booklets t o you a s soon a s they come off the press ! !

SPEAKING OF FARMED OUT TYPING, our current t y p i s t s who have done so much fo r u s already a re somewhat overburdened of l a t e with the new Pat tern Book ant ic ipated i n September, several short a r t i c l e s , the new New Member Booklet, and the recently-completed new Information Booklet and NRC Reprints L i s t (which w i l l appear i n September i n DX NEWS). We are still i n need of more volunteer typis ts . Requirements are: 1 ) the neces- sary time t o complete typing quickly; 2) an IBM or other GOOD QUALITY typer - carbon ribbon preferred; and 3 ) good typing ab i l i t y . Anyone wishing t o volunteer, please con- t a c t HQ.

AND, SPEAKING OF THE NEW REPRINTS LIST, we have subs tant ia l ly reduced the list by e- '

l iminating a r t i c l e s which a re included i n our Antenna and Receiver Manuals, the new Pat tern Book, and i n the revised New Member Booklet (our Novice DX reference manual, h i ) . We have a l so removed some a r t i c l e s which Mere outdated o r were just not ordered too much. Next season should allow us t o publish a second antenna manual, and per- haps other manuals a s well. I n addit ion, ce r t a in a r t i c l e s may be included i n the pro- posed LA LOG which w i l l hopefully reduce the r ep r in t l i s t somewhat more. A s of Ju ly we had processed some 17,000 pages of r e p r i n t s since October 1, which is a new NRC record.

And speaking of l i s t s , those of you who ordered copies of a promised NRC Monographs L i s t should be aware that it is s t i l l i n preparation. A dead typer a t RjE1s and the more pressing typing chores noted above a re responsible f o r the delay. We hope t o have the list avai lable i n September or October.

VOLUNTEERS ! ! ! ! ! !

As i n any club, the NRC can always use volunteer 1.10 kers, but occasionally, we f ind tha t an ed i to r can no longer continue i n h i s position. In ant ic ipat ion of such events we l i k e t o keep a list of potent ia l backups o r replacements i n mind here a t HQ. A t t h i s time, we know of one current edi tor who has asked t o be re l ieved - Bob Karchevski, of Domestic DX Achievements (our new name f o r what has been "Domestic Supremacy Ratings") and we know of one other semi-regular ed i to r who has been having problems with a heavy workload from h i s job of la te . For these reasons, we would l i k e t o s o l i c i t volunteers f o r backup/replacement editors. The requirements are a s f o r t y p i s t s above, but regular i - t y of time avai lable is a MUST. Volunteers may sta.te t h e i r preferences for which col- umns they would or would not be i n t e r e s t ed i n backing up or replacing should the need arise. SEND ENQUIRIES, ETC. TO HQ, NOT TO ANY CURRENT EDITORS!!! ! !

*** We are i n receip t of a request from W a l t Sharp, 1591 Morgan Ave., Cinna- minson, N J 08077 fo r any in teres ted members i n t h e South Jersey area who are a l so SWL1s f o r a South Jersey SW Club. I f in teres ted , please write him.

*** NORCAL's second gettogether a t Millbrae w i l l occur over Labor Day weekend a t the El Rancho Inn, 1100 El Camino Real, Millbrae Over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 3 - Sept. 1. A r eg i s t r a t i on f ee of $1 w i l l be charged. Other costs, in- cluding the optional dinnerbanquet with guest speaker w i l l be available on request from Rick Heald, 17412 Rolando Ave., Castro Valley, CA 9496. This event is a fu l l -sca le get-together with quizzes, lec tures , a DX-pedition, etc. and is fo r all DX'ers regardless of club or specialty.

Any members in teres ted i n antique radios and who are i n need of tubes or of schematic digrams f o r old-time s e t s should check out Puett Electronics, 3 0 8 Abston Drive, Mesquite, TX 75149, from whom we recent ly received a mailer.

We've received a note i n connection with the recent a r t i c l e on hard binders f o r back i s sues of DX NEWS from former member C h r i s Hansen, 100 W. 92nd St., Apt. 5B, NY, NY 10025 who has a lengthy s e t of plans f o r an a l t e rna t ive which he s t a t e s is more sturdy and permanent. In teres ted members should contact him.

Member C. R. Weinstein (Box 52, Golden City, MO 64748) is in teres ted i n info on connecting a Space Magnet antenna t o a DX-1.50/160 s e r i e s receiver a s per Tom Sundstromls a r t i c l e i n the receiver manual. He would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully used such a combination.

NEW RECEIVER...... A note from Al McMillan (W$JJX) of Hobby / Industry (an amateur radio eqpt. supplier) notes t h a t DX1ers might consider the new Xenwood QR-666 Communica- t i ons receiver. The specs indica te f u l l BCB coverage i n 2 bands, be t t e r than 5 uv. s e n s i t i v i t y on all bands ( i t a l so covers 170410 kHz., and 1.6-3 mHz.) and lists f o r 8295.00. Anyone in teres ted i n fu r the r info should contact Al a t Hobby/Industry, 1 5 9 Ave. G,Council Bluffs, I A 51531. And, of course, a review of the un i t w i l l always be welcome i n DX NEWS.

Things a t HQ are current ly a b i t hect ic , with PT & JS both away on vacation, and RjE recent ly becoming unemployed -- a victim of N.J. S t a t e budget cuts. Thus, t h i s i ssue is being closed out ea r ly here except f o r the regular sec- t ions. RFS notes that the LA Log project is coming along, although we're sure he wouldn't mind some addi t ional volunteers f o r keypunching, and i f you're in- te res ted , h i s address is i n Musings. Additionally, anyone wishing t o volunteer t o work on the next ed i t i on of the Domestic Log, scheduled f o r next summer should contact John Callarman, 1122 Maple, Mount Vernon, IL immediately.

Once again, fires seem to be in evidence at AM stations - See Musings from Wolff & Fenuerson

We still have a number of members who are ham operators who have not sent us info on their bands and operating times, and, in some cases, calls. In a couple of other cases where you gave me the info by phone, I've somehow lost it. In a couple of other cases, your original application form for membership indicates the use of ham-type antennas, and so we suspect you may be a ham, hi. Finally, in on case, we have a member whose novice call was listed on his original mem- bership application, but which should have expired by.now.

llusly, 1 your name appears below, plea* send us the requis~te d o for our upcoming master hst of NRC hams *'

1' Boyd, Kass, Courtney, Chandler, Guiney, Bierrnann, Connelly, Merriman, Bull, H. Jones, Phillips, Yuriga, Auger, Schenck. Likewise if you are a ham, and haven't sent us info and aren't llsted here, send us same.
