From the Director As our International Summer School enters its fifth year, I am delightedto say that this now well-established programme fully adheres to thecore values and principles on which it was founded.

Through our continued belief in putting children first and encouragingcross-cultural integration, we have perfected a timetable that allows ourstudents to learn as much as possible and develop as individuals. Forthis reason, 2017 will see the launch of both our Junior Programme forstudents aged 9-12 and our Global Studies programme for students whoare looking for an alternative to our English language offering.

Further details of these new additions, and indeed the rest of ourtimetable, can be found both here and on our website. However, if youcan’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch. I am alwayshappy to talk through every aspect of our programme and would loveto hear from you.

At Felsted, there are no limits as to what can be achieved over the summer!

Junior Programme, Ages 9-12 We are extremely lucky at Felsted in that we have two sites that are located very close together. Our Preparatory School is only a 5-minute walk from our Senior School, while both sites boast animpressive array of learning and teaching facilities.

As we extend our age range at the Summer School, we aim to provide a dedicated and comprehensiveprogramme for our younger students that takes all the strengths and benefits of our establishedsenior programme. We hope that you will enjoythis new addition to our Summer School and weare looking forward to introducing you to ourteam!

We aim to keep our students as busy as possible so that they are ableto make the most of their time at Felsted. For this reason, ourtimetable is broken down into different sections each day. This helpsus encourage variety and exploration throughout the course.

Registration: three times a day in the Boarding House. This providesthe House Parents an opportunity to explain what will happen later onin the programme as well as checking attendance.

Assembly: every day before lessons and allows for students to find outin more detail what to expect over the next few days. It is also a greatway for students to better understand the staff roles andresponsibilities on the course.

English Lessons: three 1 hour lessons per day, 5 days a week. There isalso a fun-based project session on a Sunday morning, which is led bythe teaching staff.

Academies: students can choose one of three options (Art, Science andMaths, Sports and Recreation), which aim to provide a flavour of whatit might be like to be a student at a UK boarding school. Each of theseoptions comprise of a one week programme. For more information on our Academies please visit www.felsted.org/summerschool.

Health and Fitness: involves a slow-paced outside activity to keep our studentsfit and active. This is often a ‘warm-down’ option for students who have takenSports and Recreation as their Academy choice, or a ‘warm-up’ for thosehoping to push themselves physically during a club activity.

Clubs: a co-curricular option such as music, drama or photography, though itmight also include a sports option such as badminton or tennis.

House Time: staffed by teachers and offers a more informal and relaxedopportunity to chat about aspects of the English lessons. Students can also usethis time to call home, relax and prepare for the following day.

Evening Social Programme: a vast and varied social programme to encourageas much interaction between the students as possible. This ranges fromcompetitions and talent shows, to themed discos and our very own mini-olympics!

I would recommend Felsted International Summer School toanyone because all the trips and lessons were really fun. I reallyenjoyed visiting Hamleys in London, which is the biggest toyshop in the world, and making cookies in the School kitchens!

My favourite part was the Sports and Recreation Academy, where I played hockey in the afternoons with the other students. The activities staff were there to help and coach anyone whowanted to play; they were very friendly and helped everyone withanything they needed.

I learnt so much about different cultures and have good friendsnow from Germany, Italy and Argentina. I would love to do it again next year!

Going to Felsted International Summer School was undoubtedlyan ideal way of spending my vacation away from Ghana. Meetingso many people from so many places, all with such diversebackgrounds, was a life inspiring event. It was a very lively way tolearn with people I’d never met before and, given theopportunity, I would gladly do it all over again.
