End of Project Contractor Recycling Checklist

Purpose: The purpose of this checklist is twofold:

1) To identify significant quantities of recyclable materials that will be generated during

contractor demobilizations to insure that proper dumpsters are on site to deal with thatmaterial and allow for normal operations to continue.2) To identify special and hazardous waste issues that may be present in contractor

controlled areas on the _______ project and insure that such issues, if they exist, areproperly dealt with before contractors leave the project site.

WOOD

1. Will wood be recycled as part of contractor demobilization?

Examples of contaminants include:i. Bolts, screws or other fasteners that are longer than 6 in length andgreater that 5/16 in diameter

ii. Wood with strapping (metal or plastic), plastic wrap, cardboard or other

materials attached to it All above contaminants must be removed, or the wood must go to the trash

container.

Contractors should be reminded that pressure treated wood and painted orvarnished wood cannot be recycled and must go in the trash.

Is there a lot of this type of contaminated wood on the site?

SPILLS OR LEAKS

Laydown and storage areas should be inspected for any spills or leaks from oil or other likesubstances. These should be cleaned up by the contractor.

If spills or leaks are identified, please note on contractor action item list.

SPECIAL AND HAZARDOUS WASTE

Certain materials that may be present on site cannot be recycled and cannot be placed in thetrash or recycle containers. It is the responsibility of the contractor to remove these materialsfrom the site and dispose of them in a proper manner at their own expense. These materials

include the following:Auto-type batteriesTiresWaste oil

AntifreezeLiquid paint (Note: Any paint cans going to the trash must be open and empty. If theseare metal cans, they can be recycled in the metal container.)

(Personnel conducting the walkthrough should record the presence of these materials in thecontractor area.)

Other Waste

Barrels (Empty barrels that are flattened may be put in the trash container. No barrel ofany kind may go in the recycling containers. Barrels with any material left in them mustbe removed from the site at the contractors expense.)

Fluorescent tubes and lights (These cannot be placed in the trash.)

require contractor action before they vacate the project.)
