orA 9222-1G – sCALABLE oPTICAL CoMPACT rECEIVEr WITH FoUr oUTPUTs

The ORA 9222-1G is a modularly equipped, high-linear FTTC fi bre node for use in HFC networks. The ORA 9222-1G has two independent down-stream paths as well as two independent upstream paths (each can be segmented). Up to four outputs can be confi gured using output taps.

The modular concept of the ORA 9222-1G allows system-specifi c confi guration of the fi bre node. The required modules can be easily replaced or retrofi tted, an advantage during initial equipping and retrofi tting. With simplest operation the forward path is equipped with a very low-noise receiver. Use of a second optical receiver enables redundancy.

If only one RF output is required the second output path can be switched off via the hand-held unit. This leads to a signifi cant reduction of fi bre node power consumption. The stability of the output level can be achieved via an automatic control that evaluates either one or two pilot signals (from the correspondingly specifi ed frequency range), available both as a CW carrier and as PAL or QAM modulated signals.

The levelling of the compact fi bre node may occur in a time-saving way and without additional signal meters by selecting the function 'automatic level-ling' of the RF output level. For this function the pilot level values are adjusted and saved ex works. In the fi eld, only the required pilot level values need to be entered with the aid of the hand-held unit. The device then automatically adjusts itself to the correct values. On-site, the RF output signal of the fi bre node can be tapped and checked at a test socket.

The ORA 9222-1G can be equipped with an HMS or DOCSIS compliant monitoring transponder. When integrated into a network management system, fi bre node alarms can be controlled and device parameters and functions set and moni-tored.

The integrated fi bre management fi xture allows convenient, secure accommodation of glass-fi bres and plugs, and in addition the fi xing of any optical multiplexers/demultiplexers and splitters used.

All local device settings are user-friendly and menu-controlled via the connectible hand-held unit (HTE 10) or via web browser with mobile devices such as tablet PCs or smartphones via the WTE10 WLAN modules.

Note:At least one ORD 9201/ORD 9202 receiver module, an OSR 900x transmitter module and a WFS 9xxx diplex fi lter set are required for operation. If confi gured with one output, one EBC 01E-1G insert card per downstream path is required for the output insert position. These modules are not included in the scope of delivery.

orA 9222-1G – DETAILs

Segmentation/redundancy

Compact plug-in modules provide double segmentation in the forward and return path, even with complete redundancy. The modules can be easily upgraded or replaced in operation.

Electronically switchable matrix in the forward and return path

Single or twin receivers and two completely separate signal paths enable diverse confi gura-tions for segmentation, path and device redun-dancy. Selection of the required operating mode is by simply pressing a button.

Return path frequency range to 204 MHz

With pluggable diplexers the complete frequency range defi ned in DOCSIS 3.1 can be accessed in the return path. An incremental expansion from 65 MHz is possible. Return path system equaliz-ers ensure optimum transmission characteristics.

Additional monitoring functions

New monitoring functions can be used with DOCSIS or HMS transponder These include e.g. read-out of the forward path channel level ("channel scan") and active remote-feed values (voltage, current per connection).

GaN technology

Amplifi er stages with the latest gallium nitride technology provide maximum output levels and superior full-drive data for all four outputs.

orA 9222-1G – DETAILs

Optical interfaces either internal or external

Due to the fl exible interface management, the ORA 9022-1G adapts simply to the required type of connection. Pigtails or pre-assembled optical break-out cables can be laid inside the device with use of the ZGF 03 optical lead-through. An SC/APC interface is accessible externally with the new optical DLX lead-through. This enables the device to be simply and rapidly disconnect-ed from the optical network. The IP 67 protection class provides unlimited installation outdoors. An integral membrane avoids harmful condensation water in the device interior.

Integrated fi bre compartment

The integrated fi bre compartment houses thefi bres connected, optical connectors and splices. Optical splitters or multiplexers in mini-tube or compact designs can be simply fastened to the fi bre compartment. A practical storage compartment accommodates small parts such as protective covers, fuses etc.

Electronic setup

All parameters and operating data settings are adjusted electronically using the reliable hand-held unit HTE 10. Connection is via an external interface. Alternatively, setting can be carried out via web browser with mobile devices such as tablet PCs or smartphones via the WTE 10 WLAN module. The housing can remain closed for testing or modifying of data.

External ingress test sockets

External ingress test sockets enable rapid, real-istic measurements of possible faults in the return path.

Top functionality

The optical compact receiver ORA 9022-1G from Kathrein combines previously unparalleled functionality with excellent technical data at an excellent price-performance ratio.

An integrated, double-sided fi bre compartment houses the fi bres and optical connectors. A practical detail: there is also space for mini-tube or compact optical splitters or WDM couplers. They are then protected and a sepa-rate splice housing is thus unnecessary.

orA 9022-1G – oPTICAL CoMPACT rECEIVEr

This concept is also advantageous during installation: the optical receiver can be completely pre-assembled. During installation in the fi eld it is only necessary to make the fi bre connections.

Page 18: 99812271; Optical Compact Receiversnetthandel.tantec.no/filer/Kathrein_Optical... · 3 • One or two return path transmitters plugged for segmentation, interconnection or redundancy,

18

Fully redundant

The device can be equipped electro-optically with plug-in modules for forward path receivers or return path transmitters. Up to two modules in each case provide fully redundant operation. The modules are easy to replace. Various DFB types in 1,310 nm and in CWDM technology are available as return path transmit-ters. Thanks to the high output power of up to +6 dBm, very large distances can be covered.

As a result, it is possible to design optical fi bre networks without intermediate hubs.

"Plug and Play" redefi ned

All device settings are adjusted electronically using the hand-held unit HTE 10 or via the WLAN module WTE 10 using a web browser with mobile devices such as tablet PCs or smart-phones etc. This feature not only saves plug-in cards, but also simplifi es setup. During automat-ic levelling the operator only needs to defi ne the required output level and slope. At the press of a button the device then automatically sets opti-mal dynamic data. The copy function can copy all settings and transfer them to other devices: setup could hardly be quicker. The integrated 2-pilot control and DC-light controlled AGC en-sure a constant output level.

Variable return path management

Particularly interesting for step-by-step network expansion is the electronically switchable return path matrix. The two return path inputs, which are independent due to separate diplex fi lters, can be switched as required to the two return path transmitters. For instance, both return paths can be initially coupled to one transmitter. With increasing data traffi c, a second return path transmitter can be fi tted and each of the two return paths connected to a dedicated transmit-ter.

An external ingress test socket is available for each of the return paths so that measurements can be performed quickly. The signal fl ow direc-tion on these test sockets can be switched from "measure" to "inject" so that signals can be injected into the return paths. This function can also be used for broadband return path inputs up to 204 MHz.

The optical compact receiver ORA 9022-1G from Kathrein is suitable for all cable network opera-tors with HFC networks. Due to the step-by-step segmentation features, the plug-in modules and the integrated fi bre compartment, it provides the fl exibility to optimally adapt HFC networks to specifi c demands.

20

Redundancy

Compact plug-in modules provide redundancy in the forward and return path. The modules can be easily upgraded or replaced in operation.

Electronic setup

All parameters and operating data settings are adjusted electronically using the hand-held unit HTE 10 or via the WLAN module WTE 10 using a web browser with mobile devices such as tab-let PCs or smartphones etc. This feature allows automatic levelling in the forward path and pre-setting in the return path. The values set can be copied at the press of a button and transferred to another device.

Integrated fi bre compartment

The integrated fi bre compartment houses the fi bres connected, optical connectors and splices.

Optical splitters or multiplexer

Mini-tube or compact accessories can be simply fastened to the fi bre compartment.

Optical interfaces either internal or external

Due to the fl exible interface management, the ORA 9022-1G adapts simply to the required type of connection. Pigtails or pre-assembled optical break-out cables can be laid inside the device. As a result the optical connectors are housed with complete protection. Mounting outdoors to protection class IP 54 is then possible. Using the optical coupling fastener, the connectors can also be attached to the exterior. Quick connec-tion with pigtails is then possible.

21

Externally accessible test sockets andbroadband return path inputs

Each return path route also has a dedicated test socket as well as an Ingress Control Switch (ICS). The test sockets can be switched. As a result both the incoming return path signal can be checked and also test signals injected. The sockets can also be used for separate return path injection as a broadband return path input up to 204 MHz.

Two active output stages

Each RF output has a separate fi nal stage. Due to the excellent dynamic data, longer amplifi er cascades can also be connected downstream. If operated with one output, the unused fi nal stage can be simply switched off to reduce the power.

The ORA 11xD-RFoG micronodes are designed for use in FttB and FttH networks. With RFoG the return path laser is only enabled when transmission is actually from a cable modem on this return path.

This has two advantages: 1. Less ingress, and2. The optical return path fi bres can now be passively combined with an optical coupler. The advantages when saving on return path receivers are signifi cant and enable cost-effective network concepts.

It is convenient to always combine the micronodes in multiples of 8, whereby clusters with 8, 16, 24 and 32 micronodes are created.

The attenuation of the passive coupling elements and the fi bre length function as limiting elements here. The ORA 11xD-RFoG micronodes comply with the current SCTE standard SCTE 1742010 for RFoG (RF over Glass).

The return path transmitter of the ORA 11xD-RFoG can be operated either in CW mode in standard HFC networks or in pulsed RFoG mode in RFoG networks.

The optical compact receivers ORA 920/921 provide the largest possible range of functions in a very compact housing. As with the amplifi ers in the VGF 939/VOS 95x family, all essential settings are made using slide switches. On the other hand, they benefi t from the optical receiver and transmit-ter modules for the ORA 9022-1G.

As low-cost optical compact receivers, they are used particularly in networks with a wide-ranging optical fi bre structure or in smaller optical distribution networks.

orA 920/921 – oPTICAL CoMPACT rECEIVEr

37

As standard, a DC light-controlled AGC automati-cally ensures the output level remains constant. Deviations or fl uctuations in the optical input level are compensated.

Various DFB types in 1,310 nm and in CWDM technology are available as return path transmitters. Thanks to the high output power of up to +6 dBm, very large distances can be covered. As a result, it is possible to design optical fi bre networks without intermediate hubs.

The adjustment of the Optical Modulation Index (OMI) for the return path transmitter is solved particularly cleverly. The required OMI is set elec-tronically using a rotary switch. However, this setting can also be changed using remote mainte-

nance via the HMS transponder. LEDs indicate which setting currently has priority.

On the ORA 920/921 the optical interfaces are located on the exterior of the device and are therefore easy to access. Beside them is the separate broadband return path input up to 204 MHz.

The remote feed voltage for the operation of the ORA 920 and downstream amplifi ers

can be fed directly into the power supply unit. Each RF output with its dedicated remote

feeder reactance coil can be loaded up to 7 A (10 A in total).

Due to the modular layout, the slide switch tech-nology and the well thought-out details, setup and service are quick and straightforward. Here the ORA 920/921 can provide functions that are not a matter of course in this device class.

Above all, the return path up to 204 MHz, up to 7 A remote feed current per output, direct feed on the device, the monitoring feature via HMS transpond-er, the switchable 15 MHz high-pass fi lter and many other advantages are worthy of mention.

Modularity

Compact, high performance plug-in modules ensure reliable operation. The modules can be upgraded or replaced easily.

Slide switches

All important settings are made using slide switches practically without signal interruption. The feature makes it possible to largely avoid plug-in cards or attenuation pads.

External optical interfaces

The optical connectors are fi tted to the housing where they are easy to access.

Separate broadband return path input up to 204 MHz

The ORA 920/921 is already designed for extreme broadband return path applications up to 204 MHz. Signals are handled separately.

Two confi gurable outputs

Two outputs can be confi gured on the output splitter fi eld using taps or a splitter.

Universal insert position

If, in special cases, it should be necessary to use a system equalizer – the ORA 920/921 is pre-pared.

Integrated high-pass 15 MHz

For the suppression of ingress interference, a 15 MHz high-pass can be enabled. This feature simplifi es use in the vicinity of subscribers. The return path can also be completely switched off manually. An electronic Ingress Control Switch (ICS) is also available.

Optical Modulation Index (OMI) adjustment

The OMI can be adjusted either using an electronic rotary switch or using remote main-tenance via the HMS transponder. The method used for adjustment is displayed by LED.

Generously dimensioned remote feeder reactance coils

Each of the two outputs is equipped with a remote feeder reactance coil up to 7 A.

Direct feed

The remote feed voltage, also for downstream amplifi ers, can be fed directly into the device. Up to 10 A can be fed.

Functions

Both ORA 9222-1G/ORA 9022-1G and ORA 920/ 921 can be conveniently monitored via DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 2.0. For this purpose, Kathrein has developed the DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS transponder TVM 1000. Monitoring without a conventional HMS system is thus possible.

The DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS transponder TVM 1000 functions just like a normal cable modem and can also be integrated into cable modem management systems through SNMP. This allows all parameters to be displayed, switched or monitored, just as they are in HMS-compatible monitoring systems. Some of these parameters are (depending on device): - Operational voltage- Internal temperature- Optical input level- Optical output level- Operation of ICS- Switch-over to another receiver module- Switch-over of return path matrix- Attenuation for return path transmitter (Optical Modulation Index)- Fibre recognition on/off and much more

Monitoring via DoCsIs/EuroDoCsIs

43

GENErAL

Advantages

In addition, (Euro)DOCSIS-specifi c features can also be used for monitoring purposes. These provide the following advantages:

- S/N measurement through carrier- Analysis of return loss- Quick response to polling queries- Packet error analysis - Encoded data transmission- Display of complete cable modem

status information- Local access via web browser- Ethernet connection from the transponder

to the headend for service purposes- Integrated management system for all

cable modems and HFC networks- No own HMS monitoring system required

The optical compact receivers ORA 9222-1G/ORA 9022-1G and ORA 920/921 can of course be integrated into any HMS-compatible monitoring system. The HMS transponder TVM 850/H fulfi ls this task.
