3. Enumerate the essential elements of ISM code. (a) To what type of vessels is it applicable. (b) Describe various documents, certificates issued under this code. (c) State their validity, periodical audit & the issuing authorities.

4. Name the statutory certificates issued under SOLAS to the following type of vessels

(a) General Cargo (b) Chemical Carrier

5. STCW ’78 as modified in ’95 has clarified the standards of competence required; Name the functions in relation to these standards and the level of responsibility.

6. What routine maintenance is to be carried out on a life boat engine.
