Last Saturday’s Christmas Concert was a wonderful way to conclude the academic year. Magnificent! Amazing! Excellent!... Are just some of the adjectives used to describe the Musical Production of “Rock Around the Christmas Tree!” The “Alexander Department Store” joined the Christmas celebrations, when the mannequins and toys from different levels of the department came to life! Some were modelling the latest fashion, while others the summer swimwear. Even the mannequins from the sleep wear department woke up and joined with the toys. At the end they all came together to have a celebration of their own with the Christmas music and songs being left on and playing in the store’s background. Most of the audience commented on the quality of the program that encapsulated them from start to finish. While we acknowledge the hard work and dedication of many to make this possible, we also accept the fact that we could not have provided anything less, as we welcomed the birth of Our Lord in the usual and unique Alexander school way! I like to take this opportunity and thank the Alexander community for their unstinting support of this great educational institution. May your Christmas Season be peaceful and happy and may the New Year bring nothing but good news, happiness and good health! SPREADING CHRISTMAS CHEER On Wednesday, the students from Years 3-5 performed for the residents of the Alexander Rest Home to spread some Christmas Cheer. Our students annual visit creates a joyous atmosphere. This has become a rewarding experience for the elders of our community and we hope, in turn, for our students who will look back on such outings in the years to come with personal gratification. Today, the same group visited the Armenian Community Welfare Centre to entertain the elderly folk who had gathered in the Edgarian Hall of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection. Once again they did a magnificent job in brightening up everyone’s day with wonderful dancing and singing of Christmas Carols. I would like to congratulate them and the teachers for putting together a great program. REPORTS GO HOME TODAY Yearly reports go home today. Please discuss them with your child but don’t ask them to explain the reports. There are many aspects of the reports which are expressed in adult language and the children are not privy to the meaning of this language. I hope you are happy with the progress they have made this year. 14 th December, 2018 MANOUG DEMIRJIAN

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL CAPTAIN

Zabel

I t has been a wonderful experience for me being School Captain for 2018 . I have been given the privilege to have been chosen for this role and would like to

share all of the wonderful moments I had with you all.

During the year we held our Mother's Day concert. At our concert we sung in rejoice of our mothers who do so much and play such an important role in all our lives. Not only do they help us, but they help our school in so many different ways.

In amongst some of these wonderful moments was of course our school’s Book Week. I really enjoyed listening to everyone's character backgrounds. It was such fun learning and presenting songs, poems and all of our own character backgrounds to you. And of course, seeing all our teachers dress up in all sorts of different costumes!

Then of course, we had our Sports Carnival. It is a very thrilling and stimulating running. Even if you don't win. It is such fun cheering on all of your teammates and friends, even though your lungs do hurt.

One of the most exciting things about being school captain is that you are almost guaranteed to be able to debate. It was very nerve wracking getting up on a stage and saying a speech but being school captain has definitely taught me to be a confident speaker.

This school has given me more than a good education, but also friends and a second home. I'm sure when I get to high school that I will never forget all of the good memories this school has given me.

So to all of you I wish a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

News from the Classroom... Armenian Needlework Exhibition

On Wednesday, 5 December students from Years 3-5 visited the Armenian Evangelical Church of Sydney to view the Armenian Needlework Exhibi on on display on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia. The exhibi on was organised by the Armenian Evangelical Women’s Auxiliary who took the students on a guided tour of the beau ful and unique display. The students were enlightened by the tour and even took on the task of making their own woven bracelets with a li le help and guidance. It was a wonderful opportunity and a great cultural experience.
