Through its north-facing windows, it has quietly observed the history of Fort Worth. Train cars delivered goods to the Adkins Polk Grocery Store. Automobiles came and went from Johnson Trucking & Bonding Company. Barrels rolled in and out of the warehouse emblazoned with the TX Whiskey logo.
All of these arrivals and departures across the last century centered on one address: 901 W. Vickery Boulevard.
PROOF has lived many lives.
This is its first rebirth.
Paying homage to every one of its iterations, from its industrial history to its latest distillery rebirth, the building will undergo a transformation into a mixed-use entertainment, office, and food & beverage locale. PROOF will be the gateway from Downtown to the historic Near Southside.

AGING BUILDS CHARACTER.

PROOF‘s first life began when Adkins-Polk Whole Grocers built it to serve the growing population of Fort Worth. It was the only building on the block, constructed strategically near Fort Worth’s famed Rio Grande Rail Yard.

Fort Worth is transforming, signaled by the construction of Interstate 30, and PROOF has a front-row seat. A sign of changing times, I-30 directly replaces the rail lines whose low rumbling underscored the commercial district. Johnson Motor Lines is now Johnson Trucking & Bonding, but PROOF remains steadfast. Bonds from this moment in history are showcased in the original building vault within PROOF.

As the transportation industry in Fort Worth flourished, Western States Company, a subsidiary of Safeway, saw an opportunity and purchased Adkins-Polk. As part of this transition, PROOF expanded to include a second floor and the loading docks being repurposed today.

After 68 years of occupancy, Johnson Trucking & Bonding sells PROOF to Firestone & Robertson Distilling, signaling the true second life of the space. Within its walls, the famed TX Whiskey was imbibed by the masses, and PROOF was further endeared to Fort Worth.Firestone & Robertson revitalized the Eastern portion of the building, leveraging historic features while bringing the design into the 21st century.

As supermarkets replaced local grocers, Western States Company consolidated their operations in Dallas. PROOF landed in the hands of Johnson Motor Lines, a large regional trucking company. For 15 years, Adkins-Polk and Western States protected PROOF’s design integrity. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

Cut to today. PROOF evolves into its current incarnation. The rehabilitation of the building transforms it into an entertainment venue, food & drink destination, and sought-after office space. But, all this is done without sacrificing the near-century of history its seen.The transformation of PROOF is about celebrating history while embarking on a new era for Fort Worth. This landmark will now welcome the masses to Fort Worth’s Near Southside.

A PROHIBITION ON THE ORDINARY.This historic renovation is about reviving the century-old story of this building while also priming it for the future. We’re creating a gateway to the Near Southside that will serve as a gathering place for both locals and travelers where the strength of the building is the aesthetic centerpiece.
The gravitas of the Chicago Brick-adorned architecture will be balanced by repurposed decor, installation art, and patterned elements that create a sense of home. Lofty ceilings and ample natural light provide a clear view of the historic structures lining the block, readily transporting visitors into an era of speakeasies, haberdasheries, and train travel.
The large loading docks will be transformed into generous patio space, with large glass doors welcoming visitors to iconic eateries and innovative office space. Within the walls of the space, every turn reveals exposed brick, wood mezzanines, and historic fire doors, which act as jewelry inside each room.

Referencing the distilled alcohol content of liquor, the name speaks to the most recent iteration of 901 W. Vickery while the logo itself harkens back much further. Like a sip of a strong spirit, the merits of PROOF are easily observed.
When one interacts with this brand or visits this space, they immediately conjure the image of a distinguished gentleman, with a hat slightly cocked and cigars in his breast pocket, confidently sauntering Chicago streets in the 1930s.
PROOF is strong in spirit and sharp in style.

The interior of PROOF is a beautiful and powerful combination of earth tones and the textures of brick, wood, stone, and metal. Lofty ceilings and wide-open windows let the outside in, ensuring the gravitas of the exterior flows into the interior.
We’re building on the color palette that already exists within the building, as well as utilizing artifacts of its history. Beyond reusing actual decor elements from PROOF’s previous lives, we’ll also be repurposing building materials to create art pieces that perfectly balance history and modernity.
We are reviving the deep history of PROOF by using modern touches to highlight key architectural details of this unique time capsule.
Pulling inspiration from modern-day Brooklyn and mid-century Chicago, the massive bricks, patio space, and large fire doors are showcased prominently.
