MEC E 460 PROJECT PROPOSAL
DESIGN OF A FEPS REHABILITATION DEVICE
OBJECTIVE
Many patients experiencing spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, burn, musculoskeletal injuries and cerebral palsy
experience decreased wrist and hand strength or impaired range of motion. Patients require a portable device to
complete multiple repetitions of hand and wrist exercises. The goals of this project is to design and build a new FEPS
device based off of our observations of the current device and the changing needs of our populations. Not to mention
the current one is 20+ years old.
SCOPE OF WORK
Define design specifications through discussion with the client as well as a search of commercial
technologies, patents, and literature
Prepare multiple design concepts and select top choice with client
Develop a CAD model of the design
Create a drawing package, including a parts list
Potential: Manufacture a prototype based on design
PRELIMINARY DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
Be easily maintained and serviced
Rotating portion for wrist flexion and extension
Rotating portion for wrist pronation and supination
Allow for control of tension on each portion
Capability to measure number of repetitions for each portion
Ability to securely mount to flat table top surfaces
Easily moveable and transportable
Note: Design teams will develop more comprehensive design specifications through discussion with our company
representative.
DELIVERABLES
