Principal’s Report
Dear Parents, Carers & Community Members
What a busy week last week at Leeton public School with students across the school involved in a variety of events including
State PSSA Boys Touch, Tennis, Girls Touch football, LNPSSA Athletics Carnival, Debating and the Leeton Eisteddfod. The
students had an amazing week and were extremely successful in all areas they participated in, both on and off the sporting field.
This week we have students involved in the Leeton Eisteddfod, Riverina PSSA Athletics Carnival, PSSA State Rugby Union
competition as well as celebrating Father’s day across the school.
Sporting Success
It is wonderful to see our students being so successful on the sporting field across a wide variety of events. I am so proud of their
achievements and would like to thank the teachers and volunteers who organise student participation as well as coach our
students. I would also like to thank the parents who travel with the students to many of these sporting events.
NSW PSSA State Touch
Last week Caydan and Jack travelled to Newcastle to represent the
Riverina in the NSW PSSA Boys Touch competition.
The Riverina team played 12 games over the 3 day tournament. They
both played extremely well and enjoyed their wonderful experience.
LNPSSA Athletics Carnival
On Monday 56 students took part in the Leeton Narrandera PSSA
Carnival held at the High School ovals. Our students did us proud on
the day taking out 5 Age Champions as well as the three major trophies
on the day. More details about the carnival can be found elsewhere in
this newsletter.
We have 27 students travelling to Albury next Friday to represent the
LNPSSA at the Riverina Athletics Carnival. I would like to wish all of our
students the best of luck.
Tennis
Also taking place last week was the Tennis day held at Parkview. The
students all had a great day on the court with 7 students being selected
to compete at the next round.
Leeton Eisteddfod Jack and Caydan
Many of our Students have been involved in the Leeton Eisteddfod over the last couple of weeks in the areas of Dance and
Choir. The students have done an amazing job on stage representing Leeton Public School with pride.
In the Dance section of the Eisteddfod our S2 Dance group won their section with the S3 Group receiving a Highly Commended.
Our wonderful Infants dance group placed second on the day.
In the Choir section of the competition we were extremely successful. The Primary School Choir won both the Primary School
Choir section and the Folk Song section as well as placing 2nd in the section Primary Choir Conducted by a student (Tom Cooper).
The S3 Choir came second in the Primary Choir section.
Our Stage 2 Choir won the Juvenile Choir Years 3 & 4 as well as taking out the Special Award – Leeton Removalist Trophy for a
Leeton School who gives the best performance. Our Juvenile Choir came second in that section. In the Infants section our
Kindergarten Choir placed second.
Debating
Congratulations to our two debating teams who were also successful last week at a Debating Gala day which took place in
Darlington Point.

This Week @ LPS
NSW PSSA Rugby Union
This week we have Vula, Jack and Ethan in Sydney representing the Riverina in PSSA Rugby Union. Good luck to all of the boys.
Father’s Day Lunch – Friday 30th August
On Friday 30th August we will be holding our usual Father’s day shared lunch in the school
grounds commencing at 1pm. We are looking forward to hosting all the special men in our
student’s lives.
Father’s Day Stall
Students will have the opportunity to purchase items for Fathers from the Father’s Day stall which will take place on Thursday
29th August and will be open on Friday 30th August at lunch time.
Walk and Wait
Mallee Street is extremely busy at 3:25 with buses and cars trying to navigate the street to pick up students. We ask that when
you have collected your child from the Walk and Wait area that you leave as soon as possible to allow others access to parking
to pick up their child/children.
Tell Them From Me Survey
Once again, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the
Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and
other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching
practices.
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about
school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools
in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our
students will help improve how we do things at our school.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to
complete. It will be administered during school hours between 26th August and 25th October. Participating in the survey is
entirely voluntary.
A consent form has been sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the
form to school by Friday 30th August. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
Wishing you all a great week

PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM
This week in Peer Support the children will be participating in activities helping them to identify and accept differences in people. Children will also identify ways they can demonstrate being caring through their actions.
Discuss with your child the importance of accepting differences in other people. Perhaps
take the time to identify and discuss the various differences people may have eg appearance, religion, culture,
disabilities. Ask your child to share the qualities they appreciate in their friends.

LNPSSA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL REPORT
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the LNPSSA Athletics Carnival on Monday. All students strived to do their best despite the chilly and extremely windy conditions again this year.
The students' efforts resulted in LPS being awarded the Eric Dahl Memorial Athletics Overall Point Score trophy. To add to the accomplishment of the day, LPS were also awarded the Lin
Gordon Athletics Handicap Trophy (which is based on total points score in relation to enrolment numbers, ensuring that all schools compete with a level playing field). To round out the trifecta, LPS were also awarded the prestigious Ian Lucas Overall Point Score trophy which is awarded to the school with the most points scored across the three disciplines, Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics!

Thank you to the family members who braved the weather to support the children, especially Kathryn Bechaz, Greg Halloran and other parents, who jumped in where needed on the day, to help out at the different events. Students who have qualified to attend the Riverina Athletics Carnival in Albury on Friday, 30th August were sent home permission notes last week. If your child is unable to attend, please advise urgently so a replacement can be made. Tanya O’Halloran Sports Co-ordinator
LEETON/NARRANDERA PSSA HOT SHOT TENNIS – TODD WOODBRIDGE CUP
On Wednesday the 21ST August, 26 Stage 2 students took part in the Leeton/Narrandera PSSA Todd Woodbridge Cup. The
students played at Parkview courts against Wamoon, Yanco, Parkview and Whitton-Murrami schools .
The students were placed into three teams of eight. They used minimised nets and compression balls. Students played both
doubles and mixed doubles matches. All teams played well. Leeton Public will have one team going to the Regional final in
Wagga Wagga. Selection of eight players will take place over the next few weeks.
Today there were some very close matches and all students should be proud of their efforts. LPS demonstrated excellent
sportsmanship and behaviour. It was a great day, although they had to battle the windy and cold conditions.
I would like to thank the wonderful parents/family who helped with transporting the students to the courts and encourage all
students.
Emma Hetherington, Tennis Co-ordinator
The weather was disgraceful but we still kept on going as good as we could.
-Zara-
I liked that everyone didn`t care if they won or lost. Was a fun day!
-Willis-
I liked that everyone had a go and everyone played by the rules.

HAROLD
MERCHANDISE
Dear Parents,
Life Education NSW is a not for profit organisation that relies on the support of the community to assist us in reaching our fundraising goals. Every Harold product purchased helps us visit more children in NSW.
The sale of Harold merchandise to the children whilst the program is visiting each school supports our overall fundraising activities and helps cover the gap between the cost of delivery and what parents and schools pay for our program. These products help to remind children about the messages delivered to them during their Life Education session and have either a picture of Harold or the Life Education logo on them.
The educator will provide the opportunity for children to purchase these products during the school visit. Please DO NOT make online payments to your school. Please provide the correct money in an envelope with the item written on the face of the envelope along with your child's name and class. This allows the educator to process orders efficiently and accurately. Orders will be returned by the conclusion of the visit. You can also check out our NEW product range online by visiting www.lifeeducation.org.au/shop
