بسم ال الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

هل أتاك حديث الغاشية

[88:1] Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity?

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وجوه يومئذ خاشعة

[88:2] (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

عاملة ناصبة

[88:3] Laboring, toiling,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

تصلى نارا حامية

[88:4] Entering into burning fire,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

تسقى من عين آنية

[88:5] Made to drink from a boiling spring.

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

ليس لهم طعام إل من ضريع

[88:6] They shall have no food but of thorns,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

ل يسمن ول يغني من جوع

[88:7] Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger.

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وجوه يومئذ ناعمة

[88:8] (Other) faces on that day shall be happy,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

لسعيها راضية

[88:9] Well-pleased because of their striving,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

في جنة عالية

[88:10] In a lofty garden,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

ل تسمع فيها لغية

[88:11] Wherein you shall not hear vain talk.

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

فيها عين جارية

[88:12] Therein is a fountain flowing,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

فيها سرر مرفوعة

[88:13] Therein are thrones raised high,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وأكواب موضوعة

[88:14] And drinking-cups ready placed,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

ونمارق مصفوفة

[88:15] And cushions set in a row,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وزرابي مبثوثة

[88:16] And carpets spread out.

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

أفل ينظرون إلى البل كيف خلقت

[88:17] Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created?

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وإلى السماء كيف رفعت

[88:18] And the heaven, how it is reared aloft,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وإلى الجبال كيف نصبت

[88:19] And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

وإلى الرض كيف سطحت

[88:20] And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse?

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

فذكر إنما أنت مذكر

[88:21] Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder.

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

لست عليهم بمصيطر

[88:22] You are not a watcher over them;

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

إل من تولى وكفر

[88:23] But whoever turns back and disbelieves,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

فيعذبه ال العذاب الكبر

[88:24] Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement.

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

إن إلينا إيابهم

[88:25] Surely to Us is their turning back,

S ura h a l-G h a s h iya (Th e Ove rwh e lm ing )

ثم إن علينا حسابهم

[88:26] Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account.
