June 2018 The mission of Messmore Elementary School is to provide a Montessori environment that fosters self-motivated, responsible, life-long learners.
Dear Parents, As every school year begins to wind down, I always reflect on how grateful I am to be part of this wonderful community. Each student at Messmore is special to me in their own way, and I am so proud of how much they have grown and learned. Messmore students care for one another and work hard to do their personal best. As we continue to look ahead at what our students must be able to do to be college and career ready, we know that we have to continue challenging them. They need higher levels of thinking as they learn how to interpret new ideas and synthesize information while thinking critically and creatively. We continue to build our curriculum so that students will achieve these high standards. It is always so rewarding to look back at where our students started in September and what they can do now! Messmore parents and staff are dedicated to building a culture of learning for all students to reach their potential, and it is evident each day as parents continue to make school and learning a priority. The caring students, parents, and staff are what makes this a great school for our students to learn. I want to thank our 2017- 2018 MMA board members for their genuine care and dedication: Chase Wade, Kozeta Elzhenni, Amanda Hijazi, Megan Simon, and Laura Bednarsh. I also would be remiss if I did not thank everyone that attended the MMA meetings either in person or live on Facebook. Thank you to all the parents that donated to our fundraising campaigns, and thank you for all other donations from supplies to your time. I also want to thank parents that took charge of leading some of the awesome events that the MMA has sponsored this year. I want to especially thank our parking lot and lunchroom volunteers, as well as the committee that works on beautification. Everyone has done some part to make our school a caring and inviting place. Welcome to our new 2018 – 2019 MMA board: President Laura Bednarsh, Vice President Erica Khami, Secretary Amanda Hijazi, and Treasury Jamie Stengel. Being part of the board is an im-portant part of our students’ experience as family activities create lasting memories of good times with friends. Also, the extra-curricular support with field trips and classroom supplies help enhance the learning experience. Our parent support is very much appreciated. Our sixth grade graduation is on the last day of school, June 15th at 9:00 a.m. Siblings are welcome to attend the sixth grade graduation, however, students must be signed out through the office and under their parent’s supervision. As we prepare for the next school year we will continue to stay focused on preparing students for their future. Sincerely, Renee Fiema Ed.D.

ATOM Update
We had a great time in ATOM this year
learning about solving problems. We
specifically learned about how to put
information together to use deductive reasoning.
We had a detective from the Sterling Heights Police De-
partment and a forensic biologist from the Michigan State
Crime Lab come in and do activities with the group. We
also solved some mock crimes. It was a great and educa-
tional year!
As a reminder, the ATOM students will be celebrating this
year with a Summer Break field trip to Zap Zone on June
4. Permission slips were due May 29th.
Letters regarding students that will qualify for ATOM next year (current 3rd graders) will be sent home in October 2018. Our current 4th and 5th grade members will stay the same. Congratulations to our 6th graders that will be moving on to Junior High: Yazeed Alamat Anna Keyorkgy Amrita Nayak Anjana Devendran We wish you the best of luck in Jr. High!
