The sun is rising.
01 04 The multilayered textile hoodof the New Beetle Cabriolet can be
opened and closed both quickly and
easily. When closed, its taut fit is a
particularly impressive element of the
cars design, creating an atmosphere
where outside noises can barely be
heard. It even features a glass, heated
rear screen. The choice of fine quality
materials and the highest standards
of workmanship help ensure the
hoods exceptional durability
against abrasion, the weather and
even the brushes of a carwash.
05 The tailored hood covercompletesthe unique silhouette of the New
Beetle Cabriolet.
06 If you are travelling briskly, windbuffeting can be reduced by a wind
deflector. Available as an optional
extra, it can be fitted in seconds to
reduce air turbulence.07 Releasing the hood is simple.
Just push and twist the handle
to unlock, then leave the rest
to the electric assistance.*
08 Fitted in the centre console, thecontrol forthe powerh ood can
be easilyreached.*
As a precautionarymeasure, a hood
warning light nearthe release handle
will inform you if the hood is not
securelylocked.
* Manual hood on 1.4 litre and S models.
Simply unlock the hood and then hold the operating button as the electricallyoperated
hood glides down*. As it concertinas and folds flat, it comes to rest on the tail end. From
start to finish, this elegant operation has taken just 13 seconds. For neatness, it can thenbe tucked under the tailored hood coverthat is colour co-ordinated to the chosen
upholstery colour of yourNew Beetle Cabriolet. Beautyneednt affect functionality.
Model shown is 2.0 litre.

01 Keep your distance. Forextra safety when braking, the third brake light
provides a clearindication of your
actions to following vehicles.
02 In a potentiallydangerous situation, the Electronic Stabilisation Programme
(ESP) will intervene to diffuse the
problem. Through the brake and
engine management systems, it will
specifically slow down individual
wheels forgreater stability. However,
this enhanced system should not
lead to carelessness, because ESPcannot defyt he laws of physics.
In conjunction with ESP, two other
systems are in force to provide
improved roadholding and safety.
They are Electronic Differential Lock
(EDL) and Traction Control (ASR)
a formidable combination to help
the vehicles stabilityand grip on
pooror wet surfaces.
03 In order to retain steering controlduring heavy braking, whether on
slipperyor dryroads, the New Beetle
Cabriolet is fitted with ABS brakes
as standard. It is complemented by
Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution
(EBD), which operates optimally
on all fourwheels to clearlyreduce
braking distances.
04 Via the central locking switch locatedin the drivers door, you can lock both
doors and the boot from the inside in
one easy action.05 The rolloverprotection system is
hidden behind the rearbackrests.
Through intelligent electronic sensors,
the possibilityof a rollover or impact
will be detected and immediate action
taken. Within milliseconds the rollover
bars will eject and, together with the
reinforced windscreen frame, provide
protection to passengers.
The connection between freedom and safety.
When you scrutinise the New Beetle Cabriolet, youll notice that theres no rollover bar to
obstruct the view of the clear blue sky but you can rest assured, its there if you need it.
At the slightest hint of a roll or impact, rollover bars eject from the rear backrests and together
with a reinforced windscreen frame provide exceptional protection to passengers. Likewise,
only symbols indicate the other exemplarysafety features. In addition to front airbags
(passengers front airbag can be deactivated if required), the driverand front passenger have
the reassurance of side airbags, an Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) for exceptionalroadholding on pooror wet surfaces and front active head restraints which help lower the
risk of whiplash injuries in the event of an accident.
In fact, there are numerous electronic features that are constantly monitoring and assessing
the driving situation and they are readyto react in milliseconds should the need arise.
We believe that prevention is the safest form of protection. And when you feel safe, you can
enjoy the freedom of a cabriolet even more.
With a car as desirable as a New Beetle Cabriolet security is also important, so an electronic
engine immobiliser is fitted as standard.

Advanced engineering.
Over the years, Volkswagen has been at the forefront of engine design, developing
an envious reputation fortechnical innovation. Our engines achieve our focused
objectives to offer the perfect combination of performance, fuel efficiency* and
environmental awareness.
The petrol engines:The New Beetle Cabriolet is available with a choice of four petrol engines. The range
starts with a 4 cylinder, 1.4 litre unit that develops 75 PS. With its smooth running,
its ideal forrelaxed open-top cruising. If youd prefer a powerboost and similar
acceleration, then the 1.6 litre 102 PS may be for you. Maybe the refinement of the
2.0 litre 115 PS is more to your taste an engine capable of taking the New Beetle
Cabriolet to 115 mph where the law permits. Finally theres our top-of-the-range
petrol engine a turbocharged 1.8 litre producing a superb 150 PS and giving
exceptional performance. Whicheverengi ne you choose its reassuring to know
theyve all been developed with fuel efficiency* and low exhaust emissions in mind,
and all conform to EU4 emissions regulations.
The diesel engine: Available for the New Beetle Cabriolet is the 1.9 litre TDI 100 PS which also
conforms to EU4 emissions regulations and combines low fuel consumption*
and CO 2 emissions with high powerout put.
The gearbox: All engines of the New Beetle Cabriolet are equipped with a five speed manual
gearbox, characterised by a smoothness of operation and powerful acceleration.
Alternatively, on the 2.0 litre model, you could opt for a six speed automatic tiptronic.
With this innovative transmission you have the best of both worlds. When you fancy
the involvement of a manual, you can change gearby a simple tipping action of the
gearlever forwards or backwards. Should you be faced with citytraffic, you can then
rely on the automatic function for more relaxed driving. The automatic gearbox even
has several mode functions that interpret your driving style, so should you be
accelerating hard it will recognise this and amend the shift pattern accordingly.
* Please see the individual specifications in this section for fuel consumptionand CO 2 emissions figures.
01 A slick, five speed manualgearbox is standard on all
New Beetle Cabriolet models.
02 Ideal forcruising: the 1.4 litre75 PS petrol engine.
03 Performance minded:the 1.8 litre turbo generates
an impressive 150 PS.

01) The maximum power output figures are quoted in PS (orPferdestrke, which is the me tric e quivalen t of ho rsepowe r). To conv ert fro m metri cto imperial horsepower, divide the PS figure by 1.0139.
02) Figures are calculated in accordance with manufacturers criteria. Vehicle unladen weight ranges wi th 90% tank capac ity withou t driv er.The individual unladen weight depends on the specification of the
vehicle, this then reduces the possible payload accordingly.03) With increasing altitude the engine performance diminishes. From1,000 m above sea level and forevery 1,000 m thereafter10% of thevehicle/trailer weight (trailer weight + gross vehicle weight) mustbe deducted.
04) Thanks to the knock control, unleaded fourstar (at least 95 RON)can be used instead of unleaded Superplus.
05) The use of bio diesel according to DIN 51606 is possible to about -10C.06) Official fuel consumption according to EU Directive 99/94. The
consumption calculation according to 1999/100/EC is based on t heactual unladen weight of the vehicle. Additional specifications canlead to a higher weight class and hence to consumption figures ofthis higher weight class. The driving style, road and traffic conditions, environmental influences and vehicle condition can in practice leadto consumption figures, which maydi ffer from those calculated withthis standard.
07) The weight of a vehicle will influence the level of CO 2 emission itproduces; as a result, vehicles with higher levels of specification andfactory-fitted options may emit higherlevels of CO 2 . The CO 2 figurequoted for each vehicle is the maximum possible. The unladen weightof the vehicle is calculated by range at the time of manufacture andthe maximum possible CO 2 emission for that weight range is appliedaccording to the Council Directive 80/1268EEC as amended by Commission Directive 1999/100/EC on the approximation of thelaws of the member states relating to the carbon dioxide emissionsand the fuel consumption of motor vehicles.

The Volkswagen Warranty.Three-year Warranty. All Volkswagen New Beetle Cabriolets come with a
three-year/60,000 miles warranty, which protects your
car against the failure of most mechanical and electrical
components due to manufacturing defects. This
comprises a two-year manufacturers warranty withunlimited mileage plus a furtherone-year/60,000 miles
(whichever is soonest) RetailerWarranty. Should the
mileage exceed 60,000 miles within the first two years,
the manufacturers two-year warranty will still be valid.
If an additional warranty forsubsequent years orhigher
mileage is desired, it may be purchased from an
authorised Volkswagen retailer or repairer; however,
this additional warranty must be purchased before the
mileage reaches 60,000. Full details of the three-year
warranty are available from your authorised Volkswagen
retailer or repairer.
Three-year Paint Warranty. The paintwork of the New Beetle Cabriolet is covered
against manufacturing defects for a period of three years.
Naturally, the New Beetle Cabriolet must be cared forin
compliance with the operating instructions which will
be found in yourvehicle handbook. Please consult
your authorised Volkswagen retailer or repairer for full
warranty details.
12-year Body Protection Warranty. The internal body sections and panels of the New Beetle
Cabriolets are covered against rusting through from the
inside for 12 years. Naturally, the New Beetle Cabriolet
must be cared for in compliance with the operating
instructions. Please consult youraut horised Volkswagen
retailer or repairerfor full warrantydetails.
Service Intervals for Petrol and Diesel Engines. Volkswagen has always been dedicated to protecting the
environment. Thats why the New Beetle Cabriolet comes
with a LongLife Service regime. As a result of longer service
intervals the engine oil requirement can be significantly
reduced over the vehicles total life, which results in less
waste oil to dispose of and reduces the burden on theenvironment.
The LongLife Service regime is so called because there
are no set service intervals. The interval between services,
depending on how you drive your vehicle and the
conditions of use, can be anywhere from 9,000 miles up
to a maximum of 31,000 miles* or 24 months (whicheveri s
soonest). The Service Interval Displayin the instrument
panel will indicate when a service is required.
This LongLife Service regime has been made possible
due to the development of new Volkswagen engines
with the latest technically advanced long-life oils. These
engines use built-in sensors that continually monitor
the oil quality, making it possible to enjoyreliable andconfident motoring for up to a maximum of 31,000 miles*
or 24 months (whichever is soonest).
If you would like a more traditional service regime the
vehicle can be adapted byyour authorised Volkswagen
retailer or repairer to the Time/Distance regime. This can
be done at the point of vehicle sale or when an inspection
service is carried out.
* The maximum of 31,000 miles is for diesel engines
petrol engines have a maximum of 18,000 miles or
24 months (whichever is soonest). All mileages are
approximate as the system uses kilometres as the
distance measure.
Please consult your authorised Volkswagen retailer
or repairerfor full details.
Approved Accessories. A comprehensive range of accessories from alloywheels to
carpet mats is available to complement the factory-fitted
option list. Volkswagen approved accessories purchased
from and fitted byyour authorised Volkswagen retailer at
