A MESSAGE FROM FR. STEVE

Light their way and give them confidence in your plan for their lives. Help them know their vocations, and give them the grace to say “Yes” to your will for them. Pour out your grace upon them and surround them with your love that they might grow to full maturity in Jesus Christ. Give them joy in the gifts you have given them through their years of study, and give them a holy anticipation of your plan for their future. May their studies help them live your com-mandment to love, and that all they do be for the Glory of God. Give them delight in knowing that the good work you have begun in them will come to completion in the Day of Jesus Christ.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Super Raffle The Super Raffle drawing will be held June 9th at 7:30 p.m. We have 500 tickets, which sell for $100 each. The prizes will be $10,000, $2,000, $1,000, $750, $750, and $500. You needn’t be present to win. It’s a great way to support the parish and to have the possibility of winning up to $10,000. Tickets are available at the parish office, and will be available in the parish hall during coffee & donuts and café. Tickets can be purchased with cash, check, or credit card at the office, and they can be purchased online with credit card. This weekend tickets will be available in Mercy Hall after all Masses. Sales end June 3rd or when 500 are sold-whichever comes first! Get yours today! Congratulations, 8th Graders! This Wednesday, our 8th Graders will celebrate their gradu-ation from Middle School, and look forward to next steps as they prepare for high school. I thank them for their wit-ness and leadership this year, and invite you all to join me in keeping them in prayer as they grow in their educational and formational journey to full maturity in Christ. Come celebrate with them. If you’re free, join the 8th Graders and their families for a Graduation Mass this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. With gratitude and prayers for our 8th grade graduates, Father Steve

Quotes in Last Week’s Homily Here are the quotes I shared last week during my homily. I think they are important and worth prayer and reflection for all of us. May we all know that the Lord is at work, in and through the trials and challenges of this life, to help us love better and to bear fruit that will remain...

“If you think of this world as a place intended simply for our happiness, you find it quite intolerable: think of it as a place of training and correction and it’s not so bad.” (C.S. Lewis, “Answers to Questions on Christianity,” quoted in A Mind Awake: An Anthology of C.S. Lewis, 1968, p. 176).

And from C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves: To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entangle-ments; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfish-ness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreaka-ble, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell . . . .

We shall draw nearer to God, not by trying to avoid the sufferings inherent in all loves, but by accepting them and offering them to Him; throwing away all defensive armour. If our hearts need to be broken, and if He chooses this as the way in which they should break, so be it. Memorial Day Mass Monday, May 27th is Memorial Day. As usual, our Mass will be held at 8:15am. In a special way, we recall the sacri-fice of all those who have served our nation in the armed forces, and we pray for all those who have gone before us marked by the sign of faith. May all our beloved dead rest in peace. The parish office will be closed. Normal office hours resume on Tuesday. Congratulations, Graduates! Last weekend at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, we honored the 2019 high school graduates, and I prayed a blessing over the graduates who were with us at that Mass. For those who were not able to attend the Mass, I want to share the prayer of blessing that I gave them. May we all keep the graduates in our prayers as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Prayer of Blessing for Graduates Eternal God, in you we live, and move, and have our being. In your will we find our purpose, and in your wisdom we find our joy. Bless these graduates who have completed their high school studies and now anticipate the next stage of their learning. Let them grow in wisdom and understand-ing, and be filled with your peace, which surpasses all un-derstanding. Strengthen their faith and ease their fears that they may courageously follow your Spirit and live fully the life you give them.

SAINT MARIA GORETTI SCHOLARSHIP DONOR Resurrection Parish and School are seeking five individual donors who can make a four-year commitment to provide $100 a year to sponsor an 8

th grade student to attend Lan-

sing Catholic High School. The five individual donations combined will provide for an annual $500 St. Maria Goretti Scholarship to be awarded to an 8

th grade student at Resur-

rection. The scholarship is renewable each year the stu-dent attends Lansing Catholic High School.

The student is chosen by the Resurrection staff for his/her conduct, grades, overall Christian behavior and display of virtues expected at a Catholic School. For the last twelve years we have been fortunate to award this scholarship and would like to continue the tradition with the help of a few donors.

If you are able to financially assist a young student with their Catholic education, contact Paula Wilcox, 267-2121, [email protected]
