A MESSAGE FROM FR. STEVE

thing, they increase because of the cost of electricity for the AC in our facilities. If you’re able, please continue to remem-ber us in your summer giving, even if you are away visiting other areas of our state and nation. Online giving is the way that I ensure that my committed level of giving occurs each week. We have a link on our website for individual gifts, or you are able to specify a gift amount weekly, monthly, etc. Please consider online giving. It’s a great way for those of us who find it easier to give electronically than remembering an envelope each week. Thank you again for your generosity. And have a great summer!

Congratulations, Fr. K!Today, Fr. Bill Koenigsknecht, former pastor of the Church of the Resurrection, celebrates 50 years of priesthood at his home parish, Most Holy Trinity, in Fowler. Fr. K. was the third pas-tor of our parish. He followed the founding pastor, Monsignor Gabriels, who served for 38 years, and Fr. Martin, who served for over a quarter century. Fr. K was here for 25 years himself. Our parish was blessed by Fr. K’s gentle, loving leadership for twenty-five years. May he know God’s pleasure and our grati-tude for his faithful service. Ad multos annos, Fr. K!

Father Steve

Vacation Bible School Thanks to all those who helped coordinate and provide our 2018 Cat. Chat Vacation Bible School, especially Angie Am-burn, who organized the event, and the many volunteers who helped it be the tremendous success it was. Again this year, VBS was a gift to our children and their families. Here at the Church of the Resurrection, helping families help their chil-dren come to know Jesus and to grow in their love of God and their neighbor is at the heart of what we are seeking to do as a parish. Please pray that the seeds of faith that were sown (or grown) this past week will continue to grow and bear rich fruit for the Kingdom of God.

DSA Update and ReflectionsAfter this past weekend, our gifts and pledges for DSA 2018 are now at $45,346, which is 63% of our parish goal of $72,386. 167 families have pledged thus far, which puts us at approximately 25% of our registered families. Thank you! This past week, some people talked with me and asked why the Diocese was looking for DSA 2018 when the Witness to Hope campaign exceeded the stated goal of $65 million. (Just over $82 million has been pledged throughout the diocese.) I reached out to diocesan officials to get the answer to that ques-tion. Many parishes, like ours, had “combined campaigns,” which makes it look like the diocese received more than they actually did. The “Leadership Gifts” that were supposed to help “fill up” the diocesan buckets came in much lower than everyone hoped. What they hoped would be $10 million ended up generating only $1.5 million, so the Diocesan Case Ele-ments are not fully funded. DSA 2017 was included, and the funds to Catholic Charities will also be paid in full. The rest of the elements stand to be covered at only 75% of what was originally proposed. I share all of this with you, in case you have heard (or feared) that the DSA is not “necessary” this year, given WTH. I have been assured (and I believe) that DSA 2018 is very much needed for the continued efforts throughout our diocese. Please let me know if you have further questions. And thanks to everyone who has given. Please con-sider making a pledge, if you can. God bless you all, and our great diocese!

Reverence at Mass (Summer Attire Edition)I’m confident that all of us are grateful that summer has ar-rived. It is well, at this time of year, to remind everyone about the importance of dressing appropriately for Mass. Especially on weekends, shorts are not appropriate attire for worship. Ide-ally, we would never wear jeans either, in the summer or the rest of the year. Imagine that we are (for we ARE) coming into the presence of our Lord. What would we wear to meet Him and to receive Him “under our roof.” I’m confident that we would wear our “Sunday best” in order to honor Him. Let’s encourage each other, and dress modestly and appropriately this summer. Indeed, all year long. Thank you.

Offertory/Giving (Summer Edition)Thank you for your faithful stewardship of treasure. Your gen-erous giving helps us continue to offer ministry through our parish, school, and other ministries. Each summer, we experi-ence a drop in offertory, given that families take time (wisely) to “get away” for rest and renewal. The challenge that we face is that our expenses do not diminish in the summer. If any-

Please refrain from the use of chewing gum while in the church. Our volunteer cleaning crew has had to scrape gum from the carpet and pews. If you must bring snack items to Mass for your little children, we ask you take the time to pick up anything that may have fallen out of their tiny hands. These items become ground into the carpet as people inadvertently walk on them. This is not only our place of worship; it is the Lord’s House. Let us each do our part to keep it tidy. Thank you
