Happy Love Month

Voting – Presidential Primary 2020March 3rd we will take our bus to the closest polling site for those that want to vote. Otherwise if you would like to vote by absentee ballot, you can pick up an absentee ballot application from the front desk, fill it out and return it to the front desk. Within a few days you should receive your actual ballot in the mail. Fill that out, put it in the self-addressed envelope and put it in the mail. You will need to return your absentee ballot application to the front desk by February 21st.

PodiatryThe podiatrist will be here on February 4th. If you have filled out the paperwork or have seen him before, you will be on the list. A few days prior to the clinic, I will hang a door sign with the time listed on your door knob. If that time doesn’t work for you, just contact Sarah.

WelcomeJennifer Anderson comes to us with over 25 years of healthcare experience. She began working as a volunteer in Crystal, where she grew up. Then she pursued her nursing assistant certification before going on to obtain degrees in Occupational Therapy, Registered Nursing and Healthcare Management. Jennifer’s love of learning is matched by her desire to provide excellent care to residents, mentor the staff she supports and be a valuable member of the management team here at Tradition. Jennifer is married and has three children.

Last September I moved to Tradition to be with my Mom, Mary H. Miller. We both like living here!I grew up in the sixties and seventies in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis. I enjoyed art and craft from a young age. When classmates would ask “Do you want to be an artist when you grow up?”, I always replied that I wanted to be a teacher.In high school I changed my mind and decided to pursue a creative career. I enrolled in the Commercial Art program at Hennepin Technical Center. One of my instructors was David Yantos, who recently moved here to Tradition. I learned how to design the hard way: before desktop computers. We used t-squares, technical pens, hot wax and a whole bunch of now-arcane tools. In the eighties and nineties I lived in my townhome in Maple Grove and worked for a weekly newspaper, small design firm and a couple of corporate art departments. I started as a keyliner and worked my way up to art

I loved working as an art director in the IDS building, and riding the escalator and elevators that Mary Tyler Moore rode in the opening of her show.In the late nineties I ran into Dave Yantos; he was instrumental in helping me become an adjunct instructor for the graphic design program at Hennepin Tech. I finally got to be the teacher I wanted to be as a young child! Throughout the aughts and teens, I lived in my condo in the North Loop of Minneapolis. I worked as a freelance graphic designer and taught one or two courses at Hennepin Tech per semester.I still freelance and have volunteered to layout the Tradition newsletter. I would like to offer more classes here; I’ve done “Holiday Collage” back in December and am doing “Valentines with Pam” on February 5. I hope to offer a painting class next — maybe a still life or a rooster!I chose to use a type self-portrait as my picture to accompany this article. It’s made from the letters in my name (and some parentheses).
