Oogenesis and Ovulation Each ovary contain approximately 400 000 follicles

(contain egg and release estrogen) at puberty. Between the ages of 12-50 400 eggs will mature. At menopause, only a few follicles remain and this marks

the end of reproductive life. Meiosis 1 occurs during ovulation, meiosis 11 occurs

after ovulation. Ovulation – Release of egg from follicle Corpus Luteum – mass of follicle within ovary that

releases estrogen and progesterone.

Androgens (male sex hormones) and Estrogen (female sex hormones can be produced by either gender.

Male characteristics result because the levels of androgen exceed the levels of estrogen.
